Jeans/trousers for very slim teen boy

DS is almost 14. He has a 24-25'/62cm waist and 28'/72cm leg. I cannot for the life of my find trousers to fit him.

I'd be more than happy to buy men's sizes and hem/turn up but I can't find any as slim as 25'. All the 25' sizes in kids ranges are for 9 year olds and are far too short.

I've tried all the usual suspects, M&S, Next, Vertbaudet, Primark, New Look, River Island, JL, Levis, Gap, Hollister, Superdry etc etc

Other than setting up my own clothing line for beanpoles I don't know where else to try. Does anyone have any pointers?

Its been a couple of years but we always went to H&M for snake hips DS.

SnowsFalling · 21/02/2024 17:14

26" river island and a belt.
Going to try ASOS next time - think the price will be better.

Pray for summer and shorts weather!!!

tpmumtobe · 21/02/2024 17:48

Ha! Exactly re: shorts - life is so much easier in the summer! I'll have a look at ASOS, thanks.

I'm having this issue with my 12 year old and joggers. He won't wear any other trousers other than school trousers.

I found Tu (Sainsbury) to be a good leg length and skinny on the waist with their joggers. Can't say for sure on their jeans/trousers but worth a shot.

The alternative was going to be seeking out trousers with longer leg length and just stick with the same waist size. Some shops (maybe M&S and Next from memory) had longer length trousers.

I've spend so much money buying stuff to just send it back again recently.

CMOTDibbler · 21/02/2024 18:54

If he'll wear a belt or you are happy to do the waist adjustment which is pretty easy, ASOS have loads of choice in a 26 waist

NotMeNoNo · 21/02/2024 19:03

School trousers or casual? I have the thinnest ever DS, he wears xs joggers which I've tightened the drawstring or elastic in, or sometimes taken in at the sides.

Next do some slim fit teen trousers IIRC.

surfacedeamon · 21/02/2024 19:07

If jeans look at girls jeans. Worked for my tall very slim teen.

tpmumtobe · 21/02/2024 19:09

He doesn't have school uniform, thankfully! So it's mainly about joggers or jeans. I used to be able to hack a hole in the waistband of joggers and feed some extra elastic through but even that doesn't work now.
ASOS had quite a few in a 25' but they're all the super on-trend mega baggy ones and DS has what might best be described as geek/preppy/middle aged man style 😂
I might have to get the ASOS ones and cut half the width out of the legs for him 😁

What about Next jeans? They go up to age 16 and have adjustable waists which suit my skinny one really well.

The problem is he is now too tall for Next and cannot fit into adult jeans!

Next waists for age 16 boys jeans are 32 inches.
For us, that is 7-8 inches of fabric to be pulled in.

JellyBellies · 21/02/2024 19:28

True, we adjust a lot and pull in a lot! But my son prefers that to wearing a belt.

If your son doesn't mind a belt then the other options may be better.

Sofabookhotchoc · 21/02/2024 19:47

Ooh I am watching for ideas. DS14 is exactly the same, but hates jeans.
Recently got some mens XS slim fit cargo trousers from H and M, BUT they have to be pulled in loads.

owlsinthedaylight · 21/02/2024 19:51

I was going to suggest Hollister - works for DS at 6’4” with a 26” waist - but you said you’d tried them. Might be worth trying some different styles?

weegiemum · 21/02/2024 20:48

My ds is super tall (6'3") and super skinny (27") for his age (he's 22).

H&M aren't bad, but he ran into real issues with his nursing uniform trousers for uni, I had to get a friend of mine who sews (she made my wedding dress!) to take them in.

He's desperately trying to bulk up - he plays rugby and is a bit of a fast target on the pitch if anyone can catch him he's down and hurt - but he's not getting very far! He eats like a horse!

So H&M or a tailor would be my advice!

Yes I wonder if we might have to give up on jeans and aim for stuff that's less bulky when it's gathered up, like cargo trousers.

See, this is what I reckon DS will do, just keep getting taller but never any wider!

H&M for my skinny boy, only ones I've found that don't completely swamp him

JellyBellies · 23/02/2024 12:16

Have you tried Levis? I ordered some super skinny ones and they were actually tight! Had to go up a size to get them to fit

katystar · 23/02/2024 12:26

Next but the actual slimmer fit range yes they still need to be pulled in but are cut smaller than standard and if you pick the skinny version of the slimmer fit range it’s even better. Or as others have said 26” waist again next do them and you can get a lot in the sale! I find buying the smallest waist size on anything classed as skinny fit works well for DS 17 25” waist and 6ft also gap used to do a good range.

tpmumtobe · 04/03/2024 13:06

Reporting back to say thanks for all your help and suggestions - we've had success with Levi 510 boys' skinnies and River Island boys relaxed slim cut, both with the adjustable elastics pulled aaaallll the way in.

RI skinny were bizarrely bigger on the waist than relaxed slim, so had to go back!

@JellyBellies you were right, the Levi skinnies are pretty snug, so I reckon there's potential there to size up when he has another growth spurt!
