Has anyone else’s car insurance shot up?

My car insurance is up for renewal.

I have been with Direct Line for as long as I can remember.

I am 51, have had car insurance since I was 17 and have never claimed. I drive an old 2011 Mini so nothing flash. Last years’ insurance (protected fully comprehensive) was £220, renewal quote is £400!

I will have a look around and see if I can find a cheaper quote but it doesn’t look hopeful.

Yep, quotes looking at doubling so far (renewal April) but is on a RRS :(

NotFastButFurious · 21/02/2024 14:45

Mine went up by about 50% last year and renewal quote with the same company is up about 50% again so just under £400. I've done comparison websites and Direct Line and can't find anything less.

Firsttimebabymama oh no! Good luck with it, I have a friend with a Range Rover and they are having such problems finding anyone to insure them.

NotFastButFurious it looks as though I’m now in the same boat. So annoying as my little car is so cheap to run, the insurance is going to take the joy out of the cheap motoring for me now but I can’t do without it due to my job.

Mind you, I’m faring better than my poor ds18, he’s paying almost £2500 for a clapped out fiesta.

Mine hasn't but I'm not with one of the big insurers. It's like they're trying to force us all off the road. It's weird.

I was with Churchill, my renewal quote came in January and was up 47%. I’m now with the AA and it was slightly cheaper than what I paid last year 🤷‍♀️

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 21/02/2024 16:08

Yes. Was with Direct Line and it doubled. Changed to Churchill for what paid last year.

Lonelycrab · 21/02/2024 16:10

Yes mine did that a few months back. Was with Esure, started at about £270 but kept creeping up every year until they wanted £500 this last time.
Was no room for negotiation either.

Fired up Meerkat, Churchill were quoting £240 so went over to them.

Yes. Had a renewal quote yesterday, it's gone from £420 up to £1180. This is for an 8 year old Peugeot. Been having a look at price comparison sites and the best I can get is £690. I haven't been quoted that much for insurance since i was in my early 20s.

ManonDe · 21/02/2024 16:13

Yes. Mine went from about 250 to just shy of 800. I’ve never had a claim either in 33 years of driving. Small second hand kia nothing fancy either.

Carwashandthemoog · 22/02/2024 11:26

I’ve managed to get it down to £270 via a comparison company so Direct Line have just lost a ten year long customer!

Yep! I was with the Co-op and my renewal quote was double. Fuck that, I went elsewhere.
