What's good from Sainsburys?

I'm usually faithful to Tesco but I'm bored and want to try sainos.

What's good? What should I try?

Thanks!

Enjoy treating yourself!!

I shop with Tesco, only occasionally Sainburys (it's less convenient) but there's nothing I go there for specifically.

my friend splashed out and bought a piece of their 30 day aged beef & said it was the best beef they've had! I'm vegetarian so haven't tried it myself.

chocolateanddietcoke · 20/02/2024 11:53

Their ravioli!!

shoppingshamed · 20/02/2024 11:53

Maybe my local sainsburys is different because it's quite small but it's the same as any other supermarket but more expensive

I know they are spending a lot on advertising to say that it isn't more expensive but that's not been more experience

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/02/2024 11:57

It’s definitely more expensive!

I notice when I compare my shop in Asda to sainsburys. Big difference imo.

I like Sainsburys ham- taste the difference one. Less watery. Nicer than the M&S one I treated myself to. Tastes like ham used to.

Blueberrycreampie · 20/02/2024 12:02

I was impressed with their Thai Green Curry ready meals, and all their Asian ready meals in general. Also their Breaded Firecracker Chicken is good but expensive.

Jamongranary · 20/02/2024 12:04

oh and i buy this often ! very nice ready meal

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/02/2024 12:07

I don’t rate their Indian ready meals. And I’m fussy with Chinese ones. Supermarket ones are never tasty.

Their own label washing liquid. It comes in a carton like a drink carton. It’s a 1/3 of the cost compared to big names.

Yes I use this - the colour detergent. It's cleans brilliantly and is so cheap.

GailTheSnail · 20/02/2024 12:10

They do a nice "gourmet range" fish pie

ODFOx · 20/02/2024 12:11

I like the cheese selection, so if I'm planning a cheeseboard I go there, rather than Tesco.

madeinmanc · 20/02/2024 12:14

I'm afraid I only pop in to Sainsbury's for 2 or 3 special items these days, they're just sooooo expensive, on a par with Waitrose these days but without the quality. Just absolutely shocking prices. The dried apricots I used to get went from about 2.90 to 5 overnight. Bags of nuts are 5 or 6 pounds. It's crazy.

What I do get are the cream cheese because it's non UPF and sometimes the slightly salted organic butter (£3!).

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 20/02/2024 12:14

Taste the Difference Custard. Restaurant quality.
Barber's Cruncher Cheddar
Grüner Veltliner TTD
The fresh hollandaise sauce in a small purple packet
Own brand Wine Gums

houseydncf · 20/02/2024 12:15

Haha you're putting me off! Maybe I'd be better off doing an Ocado instead because there's so much I love from M&S.

I thought I was being all fancy pants but perhaps not! Why does anyone go to Sainsburys then if more expensive and not as good?

NotFastButFurious · 20/02/2024 12:18

If you want to treat yourself then Waitrose, Booths or M&S, or a small independent butcher / fishmonger / baker / deli.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/02/2024 12:20

I see Sainsburys as a treat shop too. Their ethnic section is better than tesco.
And a lot of their own brand stuff is nicer.

Mum1976Mum · 20/02/2024 12:20

I’m convinced they are going to go bust. The one near us never has anyone in or any staff and it’s huge. Prices are very high but if I’m going to pay that much I’d go to Waitrose or M&S!

houseydncf · 20/02/2024 12:21

@NotFastButFurious sold!

Sorry for wasting your time everyone but I'm doing an ocado😂 I kept thinking of the layered Mexican dip and lemon curd buns and it just spiralled from there!

Atleast the thread is searchable for those who actually do need Sainsburys recs.

Uh oh! Sainsburys PR should look at this thread.

Their own brand marmite. So much better than real marmite. Its addictive.

MillshakePickle · 20/02/2024 12:25

Sainsburys is my basic shop and do waitrose for s fancy one.

I don't think Sainsburys is any more expensive than tescos or asda. It.comes down to what you're shopping for and if you're buying big brands or their own brand luxury or value brands. The Sainsburys small shops are definitely more expensive.

Sainsburys own value brand - Stamford bridge cheese is dirt cheap at circa £4.90 for 900gm! And, there's no nasty additives and it melts like cheese use to pre pandemic. Their mozzarella from the same range is like 35p and just as good as the big brands.

This is probably true for other shops as well. Unfortunately, it can be an expensive learning curve finding the products, quality and price point to suit.

Spaghettieis · 20/02/2024 12:28

This stuff. Addicted!

DilemmaDelilah · 20/02/2024 12:29

Their taste the difference multiseed bread. It's delicious! Their raspberry jam doughnuts are very nice indeed. We always buy their own brand decaffeinated Earl Grey tea.

Polobolo · 20/02/2024 12:37

keeping a note of the good things on this thread! Don’t have a Sainsbury’s where I live but heading to Aberdeen next week and might pop in.

Howlongwillthistake · 20/02/2024 12:39

Don't rate the food too highly, but the clothes and housewares are fabulous

BobnLen · 20/02/2024 12:44

I like the Sainsbury's frozen lamb and mint quarter pound burgers, no other shop does similar
