URGENT in agony any dentists about?

Been up all last night in agonising pain, got emergency appointment but dentist saying they wanna take x-rays first and then decide what to do. I just want to be out of this agonising pain! I’m also worried I won’t cope with getting x rays taken which are uncomfortable normally with the pain I am already in.

is this something that happens on occasion? It’s been a while since I attended dentist due to other health issues it’s apparently a tricky tooth to deal with.

help! So much pain so much anxiety

Pretty normal, they need to try and find what's wrong

Yes, an x-ray is necessary to diagnose what's going on with the tooth, whether it's salvageable, etc.

There are plenty of reasons why your tooth could be in pain and no competent dentist will treat it on a guess as to what the issue is.

Ok thank you. Any tips on how to cope with getting the x rays done? I’m dreading this but I need fixed

In all the years I've worked in dentistry I've never had anyone worried about a X-ray. It only takes a few moments and is usually painless. You won't get a diagnosis without it. I worked in paediatrics and told the children it was a photo. Don't fret about it OP, it will be worth it!

They're going to take a photo of your tooth. There is nothing to feel.

I don't normally worry about x rays but I have a small mouth, I'm in absolute agony anyway and I'm also dealing with TMJD nonsense

It's the plate in the mouth I'm dreading I've had x rays before

I understand they're very uncomfortable. It hurts my jaw too and makes me want to gag. However it is only moments and the answer is to concentrate on your breathing and know it'll be over in moments.

Good luck.

You can take painkillers, they can prescribe.

Anbesol is great for numbing your gum in meantime. I'm waiting for a wisdom tooth to be extracted and it's been a godsend

Wasn't pleasant but got it done. Now awaiting (hopefully) appointment to get fixed up still in agony for now.
