Why do people get hooked on golf?
I know I could say the same about other hobbies, but isn't there something cult-like about golf? Idk but I find the whole idea of the golf club really parochial and exclusive.
I'm asking as someone in very late middle age who is seeing previously disinterested friends beginning to get interested in golf. They are retiring and joining the golf club, in a city which has literally everything else on offer. I'm bemused but won't say anything to them.
Is it inevitable? I'm almost scared I'll somehow get sucked in!
