Stick the washing up brush in as well as the teaspoons.

Salt on a scrub daddy - much more eco friendly !

Yes, I use table salt as a scrub as well. Cheapest, eco-friendly and works fast.

Sterident tablets.

Brilliant.

Wet mug, salt and rubbing. Then normall wash or dishwasher. Problem solved.

Bleach just makes them more porous next time so you end it doing it every week. This product is a better option.

How frequently do you have to use it compared to diluted bleach? (we’re all still alive here too!)

Barkeeper’s Friend works well, also gets rid of the greyish scratches that teaspoons leave in white mugs.

DillDanding · 19/02/2024 22:52

The dishwasher stops all stains.

My mum used hers only about once a week 🙄 and used to bleach mugs in between.

BreakfastAtMilliways · 19/02/2024 23:11

The dishwasher stops all stains.

Not mine. AAA rated but has a job squirting enough water to shift anything serious.

Every few months I'd say, I have half a tub left and bought it pre pandemic. No one is suggesting bleach will kill you but it makes the cup more porous so it stains again straight away.

My teapot gets stained but I just bung it in the dishwasher and it comes out gleaming so I guess dishwasher tablets are working their magic.

My mugs go straight in the dishwasher anyway after use so they've never been stained. I often drink black tea ie no milk so they start off stained

I just use Lidl dishwasher tablets and always top up the salt and rinse aid for those whose dishwashers don't seem to clean properly.

Can you set it on a higher temp setting ?

shams05 · 19/02/2024 23:59

Boiling water and bicarbonate of soda will do it

PawsisShady · 20/02/2024 00:10

The astonish stuff is brilliant

caringcarer · 20/02/2024 00:14

Everything comes off in the dishwasher.

Caswallonthefox · 20/02/2024 00:59

In the absence of a dishwasher because not everyone has a kitchen big enough for one.

STERIDENT tablets. :)

KyleWalkersLibido · 20/02/2024 01:07

Magic eraser gets rid of stains in seconds. DH drinks black coffee so his favourite mug gets stained easily. Quick whizz round with a magic eraser and it looks brand new.

A million years ago, when I had a summer job cleaning holiday chalets, we were told to use bleach to clean the cups and teapot.

Steradent!

I love this stuff, or bicarb

HoppingPavlova · 20/02/2024 02:54

I just use cooking sodium bicarbonate. A level teaspoon and fill cup with boiling water, leave overnight and in the morning the tea stains just wipe off with a non abrasive scrubber. Has never failed me. Very rarely, if something is really heavily stained, I need to give it 2-3 go’s but the trick is not to leave it build up really heavy staining but deal with it earlier.

treacledan71 · 20/02/2024 04:26

Don't have a dishwasher. Yes i soak mine over night with a bit of bleach and washing up liquid. Good tips in here though for alternatives.

At least you were told to clean them instead of just an unhygienic rinse and a wipe

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/02/2024 06:44

Bicarb and elbow grease

I love this stuff, all the gunk just froths up. Also gets rid of curry stains on white shirts.

Viviennemary · 20/02/2024 07:13

I do mine with kitchen spray that contains bleach. That worked fine. Tescos and Sainsbury's do it.
