Ive got a few mugs that are tea stained, Im sure I read diluted bleach can remove. Anyone do this?

It’s been said above but denture cleaning tablets are the best. I learned this years ago when I was 16 and had a Saturday job in a little chemist shop and one of the older ladies I worked with asked me to go and grab a tube from the front and bring it through to the back. I was horrified, really worried she was about to whip out her teeth to clean them, so it was a huge relief when she just plopped them into the tea mugs and showed me how to get rid of the stains!

I use bicarbonate of soda too, works brilliantly then I tip it down the sink and add a splash of vinegar to the pipe and get a little drain unblocking going too. Didn’t know that about food grade/non food grade difference in abrasiveness and will bear it in mind in future!

I use diluted bleach, never had any issues just obviously rinse well aftwerwards

The Astonish product above is brilliant, used to use Milton but this has no lingering bleach smell afterwards either

I discovered, completely by accident, that the enzymes in warm milk work better than anything else. I left a horribly tea-stained mug on the side while I was putting DS to bed, after he'd had warm milk in it, and when I remembered about it and washed it a couple of hours later, it came out like new!

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 19/02/2024 15:21

I do this once a month OP.

Rinse well afterwards, works like a charm.

I'm wanting to move to green bleach so I hope that works just as well.

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/02/2024 15:28

I've always bleached my cups and teaspoons. I've never questioned it.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/02/2024 15:29

I did this yesterday just a drop or two topped up with cold water
Left overnight then washed well as usual
Have had workmen in who drink loads of tea!

Caswallonthefox · 19/02/2024 15:32

Sterident tablets.
Hot water in cup, plop a tablet in, watch it fizz, leave it for a while. Wash up as usual.
No wastage of milk, no expensive stuff especially for this and there's quite a few tablets in the tube.

CattingAbout · 19/02/2024 15:34

Quarter of a Milton tablet and leave overnight

Psychoticbreak · 19/02/2024 15:58

Salt is brilliant for cleaning stains.

qwertylal · 19/02/2024 15:59

I find brewing a peppermint tea in the mug in question helps remove tea stains

girlfriend44 · 19/02/2024 17:01

Yes.

TurnTheKey · 19/02/2024 17:03

I've always used bleach and cold water.
No ones died yet

kab89 · 19/02/2024 17:03

A Flash magic eraser will get them and teaspoons looking like new.

Ubugly · 19/02/2024 17:04

Half a cheap dishwasher tablet and boiling water and let it soak.

Steradent!

I use this, works a charm and actually designed for (trace) human consumption so safe.

erlangshen · 19/02/2024 17:05

I always use tooth paste and it works well.

CointreauVersial · 19/02/2024 17:05

I use Milton liquid (diluted). Safer and more gentle than bleach, but still gets the stains out. I also use this on stained worktops/table.

custardlover · 19/02/2024 17:06

Soda crystals & boiling water- teaspoons in too

Mabelface · 19/02/2024 17:07

I just use the scrubby side of the sponge.

AnSionnachGlic · 19/02/2024 17:12

I use Milton too....just a small bit and boiling water. Milton does a great job on the red wine glasses and decanter too😉🍷. Come out sparkling!!

Bleach just makes them more porous next time so you end it doing it every week. This product is a better option.

I second this. Works on stained teaspoons too!

I second this, amazing stuff.

I use The Pink Stuff for stained cups and mugs.
