Am I right to be mildly annoyed by this comment?

Probably. I am in a hobby group with men and women of different ages.I am 50. Perhaps one of the older ones there, though not the oldest.

We are planning a trip away to a festival. Young woman in the group pipes up " I want to go, but I don't want to hang out with a bunch of 50 year olds". Another young woman says "It's quite diverse! I pipe up "I am 50 and going". Then wish I hadn't.

Perhaps I am being too sensitive. Happy to be told that.

Not unreasonable, thoughtless of the person making the comment. But maybe try and see it the same way as you might say "I don't want to hang out with a bunch of 20 year olds" not that there's anything wrong with individual 20 year olds you may know and hang out with but that if you were in the minority amongst a different age group you might feel like you had less in common.

I suppose I feel a bit taken aback because we talk exclusively about the hobby really, and I was thinking it doesn't matter if people are 15 or 50 for that. Outside the group, obviously 20 somethings may want to hang out with other 20 somethings.
