How long would you keep homemade garlic butter in the fridge for before chucking out?

Just that really

It’s been made with dairy free butter and fresh garlic if that counts for anything.

Made on Thursday night, in a tub which is wrapped in clingfilm.

I'd pop it in the freezer.

HarpieDuJour · 18/02/2024 15:28

I'd chuck it. Three days would be my limit, so it would be heading to the bin today.

Same length of time you'd keep garlic or butter.

It should be fine for a couple of weeks

Dogfisher · 18/02/2024 15:35

It will be fine for ages!

SnowsFalling · 18/02/2024 15:49

Weeks!

soupfiend · 18/02/2024 15:51

I dont think I would chuck it out.

Ive got butter in the fridge its been there months

Wbeezer · 18/02/2024 15:53

Weeks, especially if wrapped up excluding air. Fat, salt and garlic all inhibit anything nasty growing.

TheLongpigs · 18/02/2024 16:01

Weeks

Sarvanga38 · 18/02/2024 16:02

Until I’d used it. Have never taken much notice of how long butter has been in my fridge, never had any problems with it. (This obviously assumes you made it hygienically …)

Floralovesflowers · 18/02/2024 16:25

It will be fine for at least a couple of weeks-as long as you'd keep the butter for.

I'd put it in the freezer today where it will last for months. Or, buy a baguette tomorrow time permitting & make garlic bread, wrap in foil & freeze.

soupfiend · 18/02/2024 19:19

in fact, I just checked the butter Im using, I opened it last week and used it for a recipe and used some more tonight. Use by date June 23!!!!!

Perfectly fine

user120405 · 18/02/2024 19:25

If it’s wrapped, months

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/02/2024 19:26

In the fridge? It’ll be fine for weeks and weeks

MarshmallowsOnToast · 18/02/2024 19:29

I got out the block of butter I bought at Christmas to use on my crumpets this morning. I'm still alive!

Belindabelle · 18/02/2024 19:31

6 weeks

Elphame · 18/02/2024 19:34

The butter element is fine. If it was fresh garlic I would only keep it for a couple of days. There is a small theoretical risk of botulinum contamination from the garlic, and that thrives in an oxygen free environment. There have certainly been cases when fresh garlic has been infused into olive oil and butter is a similar fatty medium.

Give over. Nobody throws butter out after 3 days.

OP, it will be fine for weeks and weeks.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/02/2024 19:36

I had one in my fridge for a couple of weeks. I’m still alive 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mykittensmittens · 18/02/2024 19:39

I make a batch of garlic butter using a fresh block of butter, fresh garlic and dried parsley about every month. So I would say weeks.
