Has anyone got an MG car?

If you do, have you had any issues/wish you’d never bought?

We very nearly bought a new one today. The deal seems good for a new one. It’s the ZS model. We’ve decided to come home and sleep on it.

I’ve been looking at Autotrader for local cars as a comparison and there does seem to be quite a few of the MG for sale but I am not sure if this is a concern or, if it’s just a make of car we’ve never paid any attention to. The other car that seems to have a lot for sale is the Toyota Aygo which is too small so discounted.

I like the MG because it was an automatic, engine size is good and a good size for the family. I don’t like 3 door cars.

I have an MG ZS Ev. I bought it when it was two years old. It’s saved me a fortune in fuel as it’s electric and it’s a good size for our family and dogs. It looks good, drives well and has all the gadgets I would need. It’s now four years old, it failed its first MOT, the wing mirrors have now decided not to turn in and the radio sometimes just decides to switch itself off. These are not major things but a bit annoying for a car that is still relatively new. I am hopefully the mirrors and radio can be repaired under warranty which is generous at 7 years but I do wonder if the quality is just not that good.

Thank you. The car is cheaper from what I can see. We were surprised we could get a new car for the same budget as some that are 2-3 years old. I am back researching some second hand cars this evening. I did like the 7 year warranty.

Can I ask what it failed it’s MOT on. That’s concerning to fail a first MOT.

We didn't go ahead with MG as they don't have good safety records Mg safety

Thanks. This is helpful. Back to the drawing board I think.

I do really appreciate you both helping me.

My mate has a Hyundai Kona and LOVES it.

Yes had an MG as previous car, it’s very cheap build quality and had all sorts of rattles, road noise very loud and entertainment system very glitchy (trying to use CarPlay etc). Wouldn’t have another.

I recently drove a nearly new one as a courtesy car. It was utter rubbish, the build quality was terrible. I couldn't wait to get my 4 year old Citroen C5 Aircross back, it drives like new despite having 40k miles on the clock, feels like a luxury car and has a very high spec. Try test driving a C5 Aircross.

I have a 2 year old MG ZS automatic. I detest it. We are on the second head unit as the first one didnt work with android auto. The second one is still glitchy.

Its also very thirsty. Around town I get 30mpg if I am lucky. Motorways usually 40, maybe 45mpg. A full tank will just about get me about 280 miles of careful motorway driving when previous cars have got more.

The finance is up next year and I am highly tempted to pay it off, then either sell to webuyanycar.com and get a second hand diesel or cut my losses and chop it in for something else.

My friend has the EV version tho and he loves it!

Goneaway, does the Aircross have a high driving position? I currently have a Berlingo and I like that about it.

Yes, it's fairly high. I prefer it lower so I have my seat lower down, you can move it up and down. It's got an electric drivers seat in the flair plus. The seats are soo comfy, part leather and like big arm chairs!

Sounds lovely!
