Political canvassing - secure blocks

Hi
I live in a secure block of flats with an entry phone and have done for many years. I was therefore VERY surprised today to be disturbed at my front door by someone canvassing for one of the major political parties.

This is the first time this has ever happened.

I'm interested to know from people who carry out this form of canvassing if this is normal?

The party representatives can only have got in by:

  1. tailgating someone into the buildings
  2. or accepting entry from one property to then hassle the other residents

Ironically it was the party I usually vote for but it's really pissed me off.
I got out of the shower to answer the door as I'm expecting a parcel and thought it might be the delivery person.

I always ask how they got in. One time it was because they had a party member in the building. Other times I suspect that they have tailgated someone.

I usually tell them that they are too late as I have already cast my postal vote. If they wind me up I tell them that they have lost my vote by bothering me and not to disturb anyone else in the building. My neighbour on our landing works from home and the other would be very annoyed to be disturbed.

Unfortunately they have usually worked their way down and there aren't many flats left by the time they get to us.

At least we no longer have a Jehovah's witness residing here. A perfectly nice man who never preached at us but he would let his colleagues in to knock on our doors on a regular basis.
