16 months of breastfeeding and no period. Would like to ttc again now but little one shows no signs of slowing down with feeding. He will go the odd 6 hours without if I’m away from him but that’s rare. Is there anything I can do? Age is not on my side so feeling v stressed about it now but don’t think I could wean him without it being really awful for him which I can’t bear either 😔

Oh sorry, duuh, meant to say - what brought my period back was 2 nights in a row of ds falling asleep on the sofa and so not breastfed to sleep.
He made up for missing out on the milk the third night and lay on top of me all night (we cosleeep) My period arrived about a week after this I think

Also don't know what happened at the beginning of my last post (Tommy?) can't edit on app

I caught my first cycle before my period returned while still breastfeeding. Unfortunately it ended in miscarriage, doctors believed issues with hormone levels due to lactation suppressing them. Highly advise weaning and periods returning before trying. Some people do fall pregnant just fine while still feeding but some people experience issues with progesterone like me and honestly it's better to wait until ready to wean / periods properly back IMO

I was going to say night weaning too. My period came back when I moved my DD into her own room at 8 months and she went from 4 feeds at night (although they were very quick feeds to get her back to sleep ) to just one at about 11pm and I'm pretty old 🙊 (I was 37) and they are still regular 2 years later and she still has a feed every night before bed and maybe an extra one in the day too if im off work although I don't think she can be getting much milk 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks so much for all the replies. Really helpful and I’m going to have a good think today about how to start reducing the night feeds, gently.
