Age of starting to use deodorant

What age did your children start using deodorant?

Also my 9 year old son has, until recently, only had 2-3 baths a week due to very sensitive dry skin. I’m thinking we will need to increase soon as he gets towards puberty. I’m sure most 9 year olds shower more, but are many daily showering yet?

My 10 year old daughter is pongy and started using deodorant at 9 1/2.

When they start to smell.
Mine was about 9 iirc. Showers every day.

My 9yo DS has a shower every other day due to dry/sensitive skin and washes armpits with soap each morning then uses a roll on deodorant. We only started this recently and it was something he wanted to try. He doesn't always remember but he's getting better at it!

Year 4 for both of my sons, started to smell really sweaty so we introduced daily showering using bar soap which is better than shower gel and deodorant before school.

DD is nearly 12 & doesn’t use it because she doesn’t need it yet. She’s in puberty though, hair & started her periods but not smelling from sweat yet

Ah sounds like my son is the right age to start. He just sat on my lap and I noticed a faint sweat smell. Going to buy him some antipers and up the showers and introduce a morning wash.

Any suggestions on good produce for younger kids and ways to introduce more washing? I have explained puberty recently and that it involved getting more sweaty and needing to wash more.

They can really really pong at secondary age. My eldest used to put his hands on his head on the drive home from school and my eyes almost bled from the stench. I'm not sure how the teachers survived the day.

Just start introducing the idea as soon as you notice they need it. Then some gentle reminders. I think they enjoy feeling grown up but then go in a period of oblivious to their own pong.

I gave it to my girls by year 4. I didn't wait until they smell!
Dd2 and I have super sensitive skin - we find stick deodorant is better than roll on - stings like feck anc spray - totally ineffective and creates bo. Sure long lasting stick is good though

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 16/02/2024 17:52

Dd was 8.

I had to be very strict with dd1 and kept to a routine. She wasn't allowed to skip showers. She got over it and stopped needing prompts by secondary age.

Jules912 · 16/02/2024 17:54

My 11 year old doesn't as he doesn't need to, but he's also showing no signs of puberty. I have started to gently encourage more showers as sure it won't be much longer.

megletthesecond · 16/02/2024 17:59

Mine were OK until last summer of primary. Daily showers and clean clothes and pj's

Although, my 15yo doesn't go to school and only showers every other day. She doesn't smell, but she doesn't do anything either.

CuntRYMusicStar · 16/02/2024 18:40

My 11yo (and me!) use wild deodorants. That along with washing with bar soap work great. She showers every night, washes her hair every 2-3 nights and washes face in the morning. She uses deodorant after her shower and before dressing in the morning.

Dd was about 10 and we got the Salt of The Earth brand and I've actually switched as it works so well!
