Why the fruit shoot hate?

Kinda a TAAT but not really... I was just reading the child friendly cafe menu thread and it made me wonder, why all the hate on fruit shoots?

I had assumed they were similar to squash, a fairly inoffensive treat drink for a child when out for a meal.

Am I mistaken? Are they kid crack or something?

Full disclosure - I occasionally get mine a fruit shoot if we're out somewhere for lunch. Other 'occasion/treat' drinks making an appearance on a day out are juice and chocolate milk. Judge away 🙂

I don’t know, can’t be worse than sunny d and I loved that as a kid!

For the same reason people like to tell you that Ready Brek is full of salt and sugar. Because they aren't very bright when it comes to nutrition.

I had a friend who claimed ‘no juice or squash only water ever’ for her kids but then they were always allowed ‘hot choc’ at cafes. Obviously her choice but made no sense to me.

It’s the single use packaging for me to give kids a drink of squash. It’s unnecessary and sends the wrong message to kids and highlights our single use society.

I don’t know what is wrong with water?
Mine had nothing but water until they were 14 or so then they hit the irn bru. I knew I had done my best.
Why fill them full of shit when they are so small and their bodies can’t process it. It. Is. Literally. Very. Very. Bad. For. Them. Never underestimate how bad it is. But your kids your problem I guess. Ho hum. But you shouldn’t mock people who are essentially doing a better job than you. We are just laughing right back.

Wow 😂

It's a fruit shoot a couple of times a year, not heroin.

Pretty sure I didn't say there was anything wrong with water btw

I think they have changed the ingredients in recent years but the old stigma has stayed with them. A bit like people saying McDonald’s is unhealthy although someone could go there solely to eat some carrots, fruit and drink water.

At the end of the day, Fruit Shoots are never going to be as bad as Coca Cola or as good as water. It’s all about finding the right balance.

Marblessolveeverything · 16/02/2024 19:38

I don't like them. They are pure rubbish masquerading as fruit.

The sugar sweeteners and the bottle spout against their teeth spell cavities. They don't smell like fruit. I prefer them having water, fruit juice or an occasional fizzy drink. Our dentist said they were better as they don't sit on the teeth like fruit shoots .

My DS lived on sugar free Fruit Shoots and he turned out fine.

Gowlett · 16/02/2024 19:56

I wouldn’t buy them, or choose one in a cafe. I don’t like squash, either. Chips & juice is all my DS will eat at a cafe. I don’t know if that’s good or bad… He’s never had a Babyccino.
