Any Americans - baby shower gifts from the uk

A dear friend in the States ( southern if that makes a difference) is having a baby. Anything I can send that might be appreciated from the U.K.?

Americans do the whole gift giving thing so well with lovely presents beautifully wrapped so a generic gift might look a bit cheap.I don’t mind if is for her or the baby but it would be nice to get something you don’t find so regularly over there. Any ideas ( I don’t know the sex of the baby yet).

Bear in mind that if you send from the Uk there may be customs duties for her to pay.

Find something personalised from a US Etsy seller.

Thanks. Can't I pay the import duty this end?

Happy to personalise but I don't know the name or the sex of baby yet. And I still would ask what might a US mum find interesting from the UK.

My friends in the US actually love the baby clothes from M&S. And Peter Rabbit !

Massive bars of dairy milk 😂

I don’t think you pay import/customs duties on gifts?

we’ve been sending stuff to my niece for years and tick the “gift” box on the form. Never had a problem or the recipient had a charge.

I’d go for something very traditional. They love it. As twee and Beatrix Potter-like as possible. Import taxes won’t be a problem if you clearly label it on the customs form as a gift. My family sends us things fairly regularly and we’ve never had that issue.

Anything Paddington, Peter rabbit, London buses or iconic images on babygrows er sleepsuits.

Anything from the White Company or Marks. Both very sought after by my American & Canadian friends and family.

If she has a register anywhere, ask if you can have a look. Some American stores will allow you to pay via your cars and ship directly to her with gift wrapping options available. If you can't do this, you'll at least know what she's looking for and a price range.

Through Amazon, I change the country to America or Canada and buy and ship gifts from there with their gift wrap options. It does cost a bit more and you'll have exchange fees added.

I pay to send via royal mail occasionally, this can very expensive and you can pay the customs fee as well. Just list what it is on the box sticker. Not sure if this works for America but it definitely does for Canada and have never had anyone charged additional duty/tax.

Forgot to add I'm from that part of the world.

Anything will be greatly appreciated. But bear in mind, they spend a lot more on presents and gifts than they do over here. Don't let that put you off though and only send what is affordable for you.

I was hugely embarrassed over here when I had things like breast pumps, bouncers and vouchers on mine and told it wasn't it done thing by the very proper frimly upper middle class mother in law. Oops.
