Why manspread on a plane?

Yes you - next to me.
Put your bag under the seat. Not between your legs so you can press up against me for the next four hours.

Just needed to vent.

Why didn't you just ask him?

YouAndYourFringeCanFuckOff · 15/02/2024 13:56

Ask him to move the bag?

Are you hoping somehow he will see this thread and take note?
Because I highly doubt he'd see it. And even if so, he'd probably be mentally taking the piss that you've written on a public forum but haven't asked him to move.

Blakessevenrideagain · 15/02/2024 13:56

Ask him if he's seen a doctor recently about his problem..😉

SameSameButDeliverance · 15/02/2024 13:58

Why would you not just ask him to move the bag?

CheersToMe · 15/02/2024 13:59

Cabin staff will tell him to put it under the seat before take off.

MarnieMarnie · 15/02/2024 13:59

I'd be having words tbh. People like that give me the rage. 'Excuse me, can you not touch me' is usually quite effective.

Last time I flew the man behind me (aisle seats) stuck his leg out so far in front that his foot was level with the front of my seat. He moved it pretty sharpish when I 'accidentally' trod on it when I got up for a leg stretch. He managed to keep it to himself after that.

Rosiiee · 15/02/2024 14:00

Some men are so annoying on flights honestly. I think it’s how they mark their ‘territory’ at the beginning of the flight. It’s like claiming the armrest. You have to assert yourself when you’re in the middle otherwise you lose both armrests!

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/02/2024 14:00

Lol thanks for cheering me up.
I wouldn't feel comfortable asking him to put the bag under the seat. I'd have to say why and really I expect men to know that pressing themselves against unknown women is not ok.

Yep I'm in the middle!

I’d bite him to assert dominance 😂 he’ll stay in his lane for the rest of the flight!

UltraSpartacular · 15/02/2024 14:04

Push back!

The first time I did it, I felt a bit uncomfortable, but the result was that the manspreader moved his stuff and I was able to sit comfortably.

Honestly, just ask him. He'll be being deliberately unaware.

He's banking on you feeling too uncomfortable to ask him. It's actually really rank that he thinks it's OK to encroach on your personal space like this, you have to say something. And next time get an aisle seat. I always get an aisle seat these days, makes the whole flying experience slightly more bearable.

Rosiiee · 15/02/2024 14:10

Petty me would wait until he gets up to use the bathroom and I’d put his bag under the seat. Act like a flight attendant did it….

MaggieFS · 15/02/2024 14:20

I wish I would have the nerve to loudly say "please put your bag under the seat so you don't have to press your leg against mine".

But in reality I'd probably sit there grumpily quiet and hope he'd get told to move it.

shreknjumps · 15/02/2024 14:37

Can you budge up a bit pal? Might find it easier if you put your bag where it's meant to be, under the seat.

PotatoPrimo · 15/02/2024 14:38

Just ask him to move! Honestly, what happened to strong confident women?

OceanicBoundlessness · 15/02/2024 14:47

Tell him. Once women start to realise men know they're making us uncomfortable and don't give a toss unless they're shamed into doing something about it, life will get much better for us.

It's been effective for me at times to announce that my testicles are squashed and to spread out too.

Agree!

‘Sorry mate but due to where you’re holding your bag, I’m getting squashed. Can you put it in the overhead locker please?’

If he refuses, get a member of cabin crew.

EndlesslyDistracted · 15/02/2024 14:51

Please move your leg, it's in the way

CJ4713 · 15/02/2024 15:05

A recent long haul 14hr flight, I was sat next to a very large lady. (I'm a size 16 for context). I sat straight, legs ahead, arms by my sides or in front the entire time.

She, however, decided to twist herself and shove her bum into the hand rest between us. This caused bum spillage around the entire hand rest into 'MY' chair zone. 😡 She'd then move the other way and almost have her head on my shoulder and was breathing on me! 😩

With my arms sitting on my own lap, she had the cheek to tell me that my elbow was digging into her ribs! I pointed out that the only way my elbow, which was well within my own 'seat zone' could be touching her- is if SHE was spilling her body over into my seat! CF.

Wolfiefan · 15/02/2024 15:06

Just speak up. No point venting on here. He needs to be told.

momager1 · 15/02/2024 15:44

uggh. I was on a flight in October that the man behind me (window seats) took his socks off..then shoved his manky foot with gross nails between our seats so resting beside me almost under my window. I was about to lose it when the steward saw it and he instantly said "Sir, you need to keep your feet in your own zone. Preferably with socks back on" I gave a huge smile of gratitude to that young man. I would have been alot more rude. I actually was considering dumping my bottle of water on his feet and offering him something to help clean it off (seriously gross feet)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/02/2024 16:00

Aren't you on flight mode ?
