Why do my earrings climb out of my earlobes?

When I wear earrings without backs (eg fish-hooks, elongated drops) one of them will often creep up out of the piercing. Not always the same one. I've lost several earrings this way. Of course I could put a plastic earring-back on, but that can spoil the appearance of the earring, and doing this has bent some of them.

Why? What is it about my earlobes that extracts earrings?

Same here! I want to know too.

I think some people aren’t meant for piercings and the body rejects them. I’ve been pierced several times and just never heal up. My skin is terrible.

This has happened to me when I am wearing a polo neck or a scarf which nudges my earrings out of place.

That makes sense, and I've noticed that I'm more likely to lose/nearly lose an earring when I wear a scarf. But it happens all year round, scarf or no scarf, collar or no collar, hair down or hair up.

Some people have thicker earlobes, so that the hook part in fish hook type earrings is too narrow and they end up riding up.

Some people have piercings that aren’t entirely straight through the lobe; this sometimes happens with cheap gun piercings due to the thickness of the bar and the speed it goes through at.

If it’s any comfort, fish hook earrings are very bad for pierced ears and aren’t meant to be worn for more than about an evening.

I think it's for the same reason that all of the rugs in the house tend to creep across the floor even if there is furniture on top of them.

Why? They're the most comfortable ones.

You can get packs of little plastic backs on Amazon! Saved me many a pair of earrings.

I usually make it less of a wide hook, which helps.

Have you tried squishing the hook a bit when you put them on? It could also be that your piercing is too low on your earlobe.
