A friend of a friend asked me to do a job for her- which is within my field. I told her that it would be just be a one off, and as she is a friend of a friend, I'll just charge £100.00 (usual charge £500)But I have just realised that I will now have to register as self employed!! Should I still do this even though I do not want to be self employed ongoing and it was just the one off?

Everyone has a small trading allowance of 1000 per financial year so at present you don't. However everything counts it is 1000 turnover not 1000 after expenses and fees. So if the 100 is the only extra money you have made you are fine. Any side hustle counts babysitting dog walking buying guitars at car boot sales and selling on for profit. Selling your own used stuff rarely counts as it is unusual to sell used stuff for more than the original cost.
