Agonising infected finger - photos.

I had an infected finger a couple of weeks ago (paranychia?). I was prescribed co-amoxiclav, as my cat had nipped me there, although the finger is riddledwith warts, and the skin around the nail is open.

I finished them on Sa and I had a big area of skin come off, with new skin under it, where the infection was.

I woke this morning and the pain and swelling was back.

I soaked my finger for ages in TCP, but the pain is agonising.

When putting baking trays in the oven it feels like a stone/marble/lump is in the pad on the opposite side.

I've found some bactroban that was prescribed for a nose infection (couldn't use it as wasn't for nose.

I don't know what else to do as its throbbing. The photos below show where the skin peeled and also of today (sorry I know I've got cream on them, but I thought I'd try bactroban as desperate).

Definitely need it looked at as soon as you can, you need different antibiotics fast before it spreads. I take it your Tetanus booster is in date?

Cat bites are even worse than dog bites

And any dog or cat bite to the hand should be treated very seriously as for some reason it is a gateway to infection spreading round the body fast, with very poor outcomes.

I had no idea, but apparently that is the case. A doctor will not think you are being over dramatic, they will be relieved to treat you as early as possible.

How are you doing OP?

whichspidermummy · 15/02/2024 17:51

@siriusblackcat I'm OK thank you Flowers

I've seen the GP, have different antibiotics and have to go back if not better in a week. I was hoping it would burst overnight and I could avoid treatment, but the GP said it wouldn't go on it's own.

I did buy some Magnesium Sulphate Paste hoping that would cure it, but have been told to leave it alone until after the weekend.

Thank you all.

I've had that infection, the second bout was even more painful then the first (same as you, a few days after 1st course if antibiotics).
A second course of a different antibiotics cleared it up.
You have my sympathy it was really excruciating and yours looks worse

So glad you're OK.
Hopefully the new antibiotics will kick in soon.
