Which supermarket?

Hi everyone,
Posting on MN and not on any local pages as this is quite an embarrassing question.
But in your opinion which supermarket has the cheapest reduced food and the best times to go? I have a local Tesco, an Asda about 20 mins walk away and an Lidl 30 mins away.

TIA!

I’m not really sure on which one is best as they seem to vary for me (and evenings have the best prices but obviously less choice) but you could also try apps like too good to go, if anywhere close to you uses this.

Too good to go by my house all start around £3. I have 40p and was hoping to get some bread to tide me over on toast for a few days!

Tesco do loaves of bread for 45p normal price.

Do you have a Co-op near you at all? Our local one does quite a lot of 10p reductions. Not sure what time though I'm afraid.

Snoopdoggydo · 14/02/2024 16:49

40p is all I have!

and no co op unfortunately. But that’s definitely useful to know for the future

Our local convenience store usually has a few loaves by the door that are free as they're beyond date and can't be sold.

Zuve · 14/02/2024 17:50

In Asda reduced food is available 5:30pm as far as I know

IClaudine · 14/02/2024 17:54

Can you borrow a quid or two off anyone?

Unfortunately not.

I did manage to get a half baguette for 28p though so that’ll get me through a few days until pay day on Friday ☺️

Do you have nothing in your cupboards. No pasta or rice?

Noone who will give you some food?

SuperGinger · 14/02/2024 18:59

Have you got the Olio App? lots of free stuff

Snoopdoggydo · 14/02/2024 19:59

No I’ve used everything up. But I can get by with this bread until Friday

Lidl late at night

xyzandabc · 14/02/2024 20:10

Download the Olio app. If there's an active community near you, you'll easily feed yourself for a few days. All totally free.

Spaghettieis · 14/02/2024 20:13

Lidl is the cheapest overall but doesn’t do as many reductions IME. They do have the bakery though so you can definitely pick out a few rolls for 40p even if you can’t get a whole load. If you get the lidl plus app they do 30% off bakery after 7pm and they’re currently doing a free bakery item coupon after every purchase.

Not anyone you work with/for?

A neighbour?

I would happily lend a couple of quid to a desperate neighbour, even if I didn't know them.

Maybe look into whether there is a local food bank that you would qualify for as well.
