She wants to stay in the UK and ideally by a beach, no festivals. Any advice or ideas anyone?

Youth hostels accept unaccompanied 16 year old. I think a lot of hotels, self catering and campsites need an 18+ person.

Most hotels won't have unaccompanied minors (incl Travelodge and Premier Inn). Youth hostels will take over 16s. There is a nice and centrally located YHA hostel in Brighton which could be a lot of fun for a group of 16 year olds for a weekend: beach, shopping, plenty of dining options.

YHA take independent 16 and 17 year olds. A lot of beachside YHA hostels are in quite remote locations, that's the only thing for non-drivers. There is a central one in Brighton, as PP has said, and one a mile or two out of town in Scarborough and Penzance I believe. Even if you can get TO the one on the beautiful Cornish clifftop, can you get into town for supplies or the cinemas on a wet day on rural buses? Probably not very easily.

Some independent hostels and campsites will take young groups but you need to ask before booking and it still needs to be within walking distance of food and entertainment.

My sons and their friends went to Wales camping after GCSEs (They also went to Leeds festival after that). They had a lot of fun by all accounts - a couple of them from the year above drove them there, think there were 4 boys and 4 girls.
