HELP Am I in for a bad night? root canal! Any dentists please help

Ok so just got out of the chair had a root canal started. The dentist has said he stopped as there was ‘a lot’ of blood he took some of the nerve out put some medication in to kill the rest of the nerve due to blood being present. He said it would be painful
next couple of days? Is it normal to leave root in? This doesn’t sound normal?! Also when should I start taking paracetamol and ibuprofen? They gave me zero advice.

Paracetamol 2 x500g (standard) tablets every 4-6 hours. MAX 8 tablets in 24 hrs.

ibuprofen 400 mg every 8 hours. Ibuprofen comes in 200mg and 400mg tablets, so you’ll need to check the dose you buy.

if that isn’t strong enough you can buy codeine with paracetamol or ibuprofen over the counter. The codeine with paracetamol is 8mg and with ibuprofen (neurofen plus) is 12.5mg…..but you obviously have to account for the paracetamol/ ibuprofen in your total 24hr calculations so you don’t over dose. Any pharmacist should be able to explain.

I have had root canals that took a few visits before it was ready for re-filling..
Hopefully it won't be too bad.
