Ideas for special 40th for wife

My wife's 40th is later this year. She says that she doesn't want a big fuss, but I think it's important to celebrate. A big birthday party isn't an option, we only have a few friends in the UK and we're far from home and have no family here and majority of friends are back home.

I was wondering if there were any ideas of fun/special things to do or places for a nice weekend away so that she feels special. We have a 6 year old so would like them to be part of the celebration too. We're in the South East but can travel.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted!

How about a trip to Paris? Go to Eurodisney with your DD and have some nice dinners. Go up the Eiffel Tower!

My dh took me out to dinner and bought me a painting by a local artist.

What does she like? At that age a weekend in London would be exciting for your 6 year old, museums, boat on the thames, a night in a hotel, west end shows, and you could incorporate lovely restaurants for the grown ups.
If she prefers being out in nature, how about a luxury yurt somewhere? Great for a family and young child, you could have camp fires, stargaze and again add in special pub lunches. Also an activity you'll all enjoy like a wildlife safari, go ape, rock climbing, if coastal, boat trip to spot seals or that kind of thing.
Would you go abroad? There's places similar to centre parcs in Europe - duinrell near Amsterdam so you could mix activities and sightseeing.
I'd go with whatever you most enjoy as a family and plan it to death so she doesn't have to, and make sure it all flows perfectly. Good luck!
