Struggling with anxiety and intrusive thoughts, started sertraline 10 days ago that has made me feel worse ! Although I know it has worked for me in the past . Just need to hear from people that have been through something similar that it will get better. Feel
so detached from everything x

Hi there. Fellow sertraline user here. I was switched to it when my citalopram suddenly stopped working and I had quite a crisis.

It will pass.

It takes a couple of weeks for sertraline to get going, so it's not long now until you should at least feel a difference.

Have you thought about counselling alongside it? I never had any luck with counselling, it did nothing for me, but then I discovered Better Health and my therapist there was fantastic.

Courage, mon brave, you've already got past the worst of it. It's always darkest just before dawn.

Thank you @ClawedButler . Can't see my way through it just now, can't enjoy being with my children can't enjoy anything feels unbearable. Don't know how to get through the days. I know I have got through bad times before but it's so hard when your in the midst of it. X

Hi, I felt much worse for about 3 weeks after starting Sertraline, then it all kicked in and I was back on an even keel.

@Tinytigertail were you suffering anxiety too ?

Yeah, I think you have to kind of trust the process a bit, because it does take so long to work and it's really really dark until it does.

My advice would be to lower your expectations of yourself for the next week or so - just the basics is all you need right now.

And don't forget to congratulate yourself EVERY DAY just for keeping on going even when it was really tough.

You don't need to see a way through it yet. You just need to trust that you will soon.

I take propanol for anxiety, I didn't find that Sertraline did much for anxiety.

@Tinytigertail were you suffering anxiety too ?

Yes, and absolute overwhelm. I felt so bad at the beginning on the Sertraline, but my GP had warned that this might be the case. However, it did pass and the Sertraline really helped. I was able to slowly decrease my dosage and have not (touch wood) needed them for the past 2 years. Hang on in there OP, I'm hopeful you will turn the corner too. Flowers

@ClawedButler we are meant to be going on holiday in 3 weeks, our first holiday abroad with our three children. Terrified I won't be well enough to go and let everyone down. But I know I need to take it day to day just now x

It does pass 💐

The first few weeks are so hard but they do help in the longterm.

Mummyrj18 · 13/02/2024 17:59

C@ThatSharpCrow thank you so much. I feel like I just want reassurance all the time that I will be ok. Which I know isn't healthy. But I feel like it helps me x
