Renewal of child passport - how long now?

Got to renew DC's passport. We have a trip booked at start of April. The passport office say 3-4 weeks for a renewal but I'm not sure if I should go fast track to be sure we get it in time. That involves the faff of an appointment but is it worth it?

Ours took a week at the end of last year.

I've literally sent my daughters old passport off for renewal on 7th Feb, yesterday (12th) I had notification that her new one had been printed and was with the delivery people. Just waiting for the notification that it's out for delivery.

Amazingly after one previous massive delay causing signatures to be past the date or something, sent this off v recently and it only took.. 5 days from posting to receive it back

Squishyfrog · 13/02/2024 12:21

My daughter's renewal was submitted, issued and received back within a week and that was over the New Year period. Hopefully if you send it off now you will be fine for April.

GrandHighPoohbah · 13/02/2024 12:22

I did my DS's last month. It was one week from me filling in the online form to the new one arriving at our house.

LadyWhitwell · 13/02/2024 12:23

Mine took a week. We weren't even asked for references.

UpUpUpU · 13/02/2024 12:26

I’ve just done my sons. Applied a week last Sunday evening, ID confirmed on Monday and I posted old one back the same day (paid for the passport special delivery) and it arrived Friday, so less than a week!

It should be absolutely fine for April.

evespudding · 13/02/2024 12:29

My daughter's took a week, in January. Service is great with text updates throughout.

Hijinks75 · 13/02/2024 12:34

DD sent off for first passport for her little one, took about 10 days,

BogRollBOGOF · 13/02/2024 12:42

Ours was 10 days recently, including a couple of days delay at the ID stage.

Two weeks ago I requested new passports for my sons. One is on the way back , the other is on hold until they receive his birth certificate for some reason. Sent that off on sat and still heard nothing. It's a longer process for us this time.

Rosieumbrella · 13/02/2024 12:49

We did our kids passports last Sunday online, sent the old ones off on the Monday - new ones arrived on Friday so less than a week here too!

mitogoshi · 13/02/2024 12:54

The bigger issue is the slow post office, I would pay for next day delivery!

Hakunatomato · 13/02/2024 12:56

Posted mine last Monday, it was delivered first thing on Friday.

NewYearResolutions · 13/02/2024 12:57

Mine took two weeks in January. You should be fine.

CertainlyKernow · 13/02/2024 12:59

I sent off my son's application on 24th January, posted his old passport on 25th January and got the new one back on 2nd February - so 9 days.

Nejnej · 13/02/2024 13:20

We just got my sons first passport within a week of sending off documents so I think they're processing pretty fast currently

lavagal · 13/02/2024 13:35

Got DD back today - once they recieved her old passport it took 5 days

Elektra1 · 13/02/2024 15:58

Thanks all!

We’ve become so conditioned to public services being crap, that it’s a revelation that whatever they did to overhaul passports in the last couple of years actually works!

Muddywalks34 · 13/02/2024 17:09

Just had my daughters done, they went to separate offices, one was back in a week, the other after 10 days
