I’ll go first, I try to get out of the house at least once a day. I know this makes me feel better and gives me perspective. I try to exercise once a week and I know that eating healthy makes me feel good. What do you do for yours?

Swim twice a week followed by steam or sauna
have a little chat with my pug when I come home from work
buy a slice of cake from local coffee shop
every week or two
use perfume most days
iron a couple of tops really well
do a special laundry load of my jumpers etc (separate to the mucky family stuff) with nice smelling products
have a glass of wine at lunchtime on my day off as I often miss out by working weekends
occasional lone cinema trips
twice a year night away on my own usually to London
(love time on my own)
get library books and abandon any that don’t grip me. Sit and read for an hour or more in the sun if possible
wear nice bras
don’t save clothes for best wear stuff I like all the time (it’s not high end stuff mainly Marks, Fatface etc)
take dd on random nights away few times a year - for the cost of around £50 in a premier inn

also left my stupidly pressured job and now only work full time not silly hours (NHS) - better work/life balance I was making myself ill

The gym. Really helps!

Jecstar · 12/02/2024 23:41

I read for 30mins before bed every day. Walk in my lunch break three times a week. Have started swimming once a week which makes me feel fab. Listen to podcasts. Use headspace app at the end of the day.

Sparklybutold · 12/02/2024 23:41

I take my medication on time daily

LondonLass61 · 12/02/2024 23:41

What a lovely and informative thread. I like a day on my own every week just to potter, tidy, curate outfits, read, journal. I try to exercise 3 x per week at home and I have a weekly Pilates class.

RubyGemStone · 12/02/2024 23:45

Sounds ludicrous, wouldn't have believed it myself until I tried it but, every evening I write in my diary something positive about my day. So what the best part was/what made it memorable etc. Even if the only good thing was wiping the kitchen down or had a lovely hot shower. No science, purely anecdotal but going to sleep on a positive seems to really help, plus I like reading it back on occasion.

Also, coffee on the patio in gorgeous cups with the cats. Watching people falling over/You've been framed type vids on Youtube and blasting music while I clean.

Horses7 · 12/02/2024 23:45

When I worked full time in a highly stressful job I used to get up at 6am and lie quietly in a hot bath and think of nothing, by 7am I was dressed and ready for the day. At 7am I woke up the family for school/work. It was the only calm ‘me time’ I got Monday to Friday and I honestly believe it kept me sane - I did it for years and years.

It used to be walking my dog, but since she died recently and I can't bring myself to go for walks without her yet. So instead I've really thrown myself into my knitting. It takes my mind off my loss, stops me scoffing biscuits all evening and I get a good sense of achievement from it.

Babla · 13/02/2024 00:07

Swimming twice a week and plenty of alone time

Pigglyplaystruant99 · 13/02/2024 00:10

Took my husband’s advice and started to be more assertive at work. I had to learn to say no.

I have a chat with my crew (my subconscious) to make sure we're all sailing in the same direction. Works for me.

Baths. At least one day at the weekend I have a “mega bath” where I am in there for a good few hours. Bubbles, a magazine, my Kindle, sometimes a podcast. I like it boiling hot, and always bring in a pint glass of squash with me. Ideally at the end I will do a body scrub, shave, fake tan, then clean pjs and paint my nails and toenails.

I like the sound of this

Sandiegodreaming · 13/02/2024 07:17

Walk outside in nature, meet friends, exercise, eat healthily. Drink lots of water. Think positive. All the usual.

Andywarholswig · 13/02/2024 07:21

My list is a bit boring but it works for me and I honestly say they are all things that make a difference

  • Walk my dog, aim for twice a day (can’t wait for the longer evenings so it can be 3 times)
  • Ride my peloton at least 3 times a week - I find intense sweaty exercise is a massive mood improver
  • Keep to regular bedtimes - I like to be in bed by 10pm and up by 6am, can be 30 mins later but after that I don’t sleep that well
  • Drink lots of water as otherwise I feel dehydrated and tired
  • Hang out with my friends, can be just on a walk or a lunch, but aim to meet someone at least once a week for a chat and a catchup
  • Plan something to look forward to every month, theatre, cinema, day out with the kids - but have something in the diary that is going to be fun and takes me out of my house (wfh)
Likeateddybeard · 13/02/2024 07:25

Walking. Yoga when I’m disciplined. We go out for low key lunches a lot ( too much). Bowl of soup and salad type thing. Last year it was being part of an online community studying a spiritual text. I’ve signed up for this year but haven’t really got into it again due to family issues. It kept me sane last year. Wonderful book group where we meet every week and some of us go for lunch afterwards.

TwilightSkies · 13/02/2024 07:32

I meditate 30 mins every evening. Never drink. Make a real effort to eat in a way that makes me feel good. Less scrolling. Go to bed early.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 13/02/2024 09:40

Walking.
Going outside in green and blue spaces.
Meeting friends.
Getting 7/8 hours sleep.
Yoga/stretching.
A long bath with the full works.
Swimming.
Colouring in.
Lego.
Reading.
Writing.
Mindful breathing in front of a nice candle.

cutecockerpoo12 · 13/02/2024 16:46

What is the spiritual text study
that sound interesting
and I don’t need to leave the house.
