DH work voice

I adore my DH, he makes me laugh, we get on amazingly, totally attracted to him, everything is great, very happy in our relationship.

But… his ‘work voice’ is like nails on a chalkboard for me 😳I feel awful thinking it and I’d never tell him. But when he is on work calls at home it gives me the ick!

He just uses a completely different voice that for some reason puts my teeth on edge I can’t explain it!

Can anyone relate to this or is it just me? 😂

This is totally lighthearted btw! I’m sure he thinks the same about me on my work calls lol

I definitely have a work voice and I hate it but can't seem to shift it 😂😂

Windydaysandwetnights · 12/02/2024 17:12

The way my ex said 8 on the phone made me want to harm him....

My DH hates my work phone voice. I think it’s cos he is a bit jealous/insecure about my life with all these people he doesn’t know making decisions about stuff he doesn’t know about. It unsettles him.

Yes!! I am so relieved when he goes and works in the office!!

I have a work voice (also a telephone one) but sometimes if things get a little screwy at work I lapse into my natural (as with family) voice. Everyone stops and looks at me.
Have they never seen Eastenders!?!

HelloMiss · 12/02/2024 18:58

I'm told I sound posh when talking on the radio at work! I use my natural voice I think but now I'm aware I sound snobbish to everyone!!!

My DH definitely has a work voice. It was very grating during the covid lockdown when he was doing endless Zoom tutorials and lectures.
Nothing intrinsically wrong with it. It just seemed so mannered because I knew what his normal voice was like.

passiveconstellation · 12/02/2024 19:12

What's his work voice like?

gano · 12/02/2024 19:16

I have a telephone work voice, as my job is predominantly on the phones and I have a strong brummie accent. My telephone voice is neutral. When I was married, sometimes my ex would call work, I'd answer the phone and he wouldn't even realise it was me.

MadCatLady27 · 12/02/2024 19:18

Yes! If I'm off work and he's downstairs I can hear him and he's generally softly spoken but the volume he speaks at seems to multiply many times when he's on a work call.

Don't even get me started on the fake laugh... It makes me envisage violence

ElderMillenials · 12/02/2024 19:18

What's the voice?!

My DH turns into a condescending dick when he thinks he's right... which it turns out is a lot at work 🙄
but he says he hates my work voice, he's used to either flat, monotone, disinterested or super fast, excited and can't get words out fast enough. I have to keep it even for work and he says it's weird.

passiveconstellation · 12/02/2024 19:21

Now wondering if all my colleagues are using work voices and if so what their real voices are.

It’s just a different voice to his normal once so I can hear it feels really forced - not his fault at all but it just grates on me! He does a LOT of ‘mmm..,mmmm’ noises in agreement which drives me potty.

He also does this thing - I think when he’s rambling a bit and realises - he then.. talks..like…this…with…gaps… and sort of trails off in a mumble. It makes me see red and I just want to scream spit it out!!!

I love him dearly but not so much when we work at home together 😂
