Does anyone know embroidery/knotting techniques? (Quite niche!)

Bit of a long shot but I need to add belt loops to a wool coat and I have embroidery silks...I'm sure that back in my friendship bracelet days of the 90s, there was a technique to self-knot embroidery thread to make it thicker - almost braiding it by knotting it on itself. I've googled the heck out of this but got nowhere. It's not cobra knots - I've done that on paracord with the kids - and I don't want the kind of flat friendship bracelets we used to make (much as I love them...). The technique I'm thinking of just gives a slightly thicker knitted cord, if that makes sense. Any advice gratefully received!!

You could make an icord? It’s a thin tube made by knitting/crochetting/french knitting using a knitting dolly. It does depend on how comfortable you are with that kind of thing but it would make a thicker cord of silk.
