At work, local gov environment - we sat nattering on our desks and a colleague walked in from a client visit and wished one of my work-mates, "Congrats on your engagement

That was fine until my co-worker stuck out her hand to show of her diamond ring set in white gold I think it was.

The workmate who walked in said, "is that real." Honestly, she was being serious and had not noted what she had done by her insensitive comments

Have you got something to share that was insensitive?

I used to have awful hormonal acne all over my chin for years.

My SiL is horrible and never misses a chance to be nasty to me and for years, I let it go. We used to take her and her kids for days out all the time and she never once thanked me. She'd ring up and demand that I be there in 20 minutes and then scream at me that I'd ruined her day and how awful it was for her kids, what a cunt I was etc.

Amazingly, we made it within her ordered time and she looked me up and down on the doorstep and said, "God, you're spotty!" (Think Rik being nasty to Neil in The Young Ones for the sneering expression).

I said airily, "At least I'm only ugly on the outside!" She knew I'd got one on her, but she was too thick to work it out.

Seriously, if I said she's evil, I'd be slandering evil!

Getthethrowonthesofa · 11/02/2024 18:29

My late mil; I was getting ready to go out, was in my early twenties, wearing a short skirt , but not very short, just to just below mid thigh, it was like a cream pencil skirt. I said right I’m ready, do I loook ok, she said you look like you should be standing on a street corner.

we then just stared at each other. I was so shocked.

I simply turned around and walked out the room without a word.

I know. Its frightening how many people get offended at absolutely nothing, or who twist things to think people are having a dig at them!!

There are about 5 comments on this whole thread that were actively nasty (the racism one is just beyond awful) but other than those, I don't see bitchiness in many!

Alwayslookonthebrightside1 · 11/02/2024 18:31

Long term SAHM - good (!) friend said to me ‘you were so bright at school, didn’t you want to make anything of your life’…

distinctpossibility · 11/02/2024 18:32

Some of these... ouch!

A memorable one for me was an old school "friend" - "I saw your wedding photos on Facebook. From your hair, it looked like it was windy."

IcedPlum · 11/02/2024 18:32

She didn't lose a baby just a blob of cells .

Roussette · 11/02/2024 18:33

I used to have a friend and we supported each other. I'd had a bit of a rough time (not bad, not long lasting) but she was there for me and was a support. (As I was with her if she needed me)

It was only a couple of months and everything was so much better for me and she said...
"I'll be honest with you, I don't really like you happy, I much prefer it when you're not"

What a friend, eh?!

That comment ended the friendship...

One that was aimed at me. Left a pub, and everyone was hugging each other goodbye. One lady, who I considered a friend and I thought was pretty decent, hugged me and whispered into my ear "just because I am hugging you, doesn't mean I like you".

Ouch! Is there any chance at all it was an attempt at humour?

No, she meant it. I binned her off after that. I can not be doing with that level of nastiness in my life.

This person sounds unhinged!

sanityisamyth · 11/02/2024 18:40

I was raped at uni, 500 miles from home. I phoned my mother for some support and she simply said

"At least he didn't strangle you afterwards."

And then hung up on me.

She gave me a hard time about driving me to the airport for the trial too - was only told a few days before that it was taking place (3 false starts in the end before he skipped the country) but it meant that she would have to cancel her overtime shift.

That was only the tip of the iceberg too.

belvitas · 11/02/2024 18:40

"I can't
imagine you with a baby"
said by a colleague when I was pregnant with my first baby. She was the main reason I didn't return to that job. Utter bitch.

"you look tarty, like
mutton" said by MIL when I was heading out for the first time after having a baby.

what an utter utter bitch.
How's your relationship with her
now?
i'm so sorry that happened to
you.

sanityisamyth · 11/02/2024 18:45

@belvitas not great! It was my birthday yesterday and she phoned a few times but I just ignored her calls. She's a complete narcissist. She wanted to see me ... not, would I like to see her!

She wants to give me the present she bought me. I've thrown the last 10 or so in the bin or given them away to friends (one was a nice Joules gilet thing) as I can't bear to have anything from her in the house so I can't see that I'm going to do anything different with this one ...

MissRheingold · 11/02/2024 18:45

Probably as bad as each other but in the playground there was an awful woman who had caused drama by having an affair with not one but two of the playground dads and didn't mind boasting about it as if it was something to be proud of.

Quite a few mums said she was a bully. I don't call it bullying when a woman is full of herself like that and I see it as other women being submissive and allowing her type to talk down to them.

I'm loud and obnoxious so she made the mistake of trying to chat to me whilst there was a group of us waiting and she was trying to get sympathy by saying that another group of women were shunning her because of the affair she was currently involved in and she bragged, 'It's jealously they know I could have anyone's husband if I wanted to!'

Now I had previously noted she was a bit bow legged and wore trousers or skirts below the knee except for a few times she had arrived in her tennis gear and I had seen her legs.

So I replied bitchily, "I can well believe from the way you walk that you already have had most of them!" She walked off.

I'm afraid to say that I got her a few more times until she learnt to keep well away from me.

Another occasion I remember is her daughter came out of class and someone remarked how much she looked like her mother to which I couldn't resist saying, "That's a shame!"

I'm not a bitch to anyone other than someone who is equally up themselves! 😩😂

pictoosh · 11/02/2024 18:47

I was 15 and spending a fortnight in hospital owing to a serious bout of scalp psoriasis which had caused me to lose my long (and lovely) hair.

In those days you had to go to the communal dining room for your meals. I was minding my own business when a lady across the table asked me, "So what's your name?". I replied "(my name)". She looked surprised and exclaimed, "Oh! When I think of the name (my name), I think of someone slim and pretty, nothing like you at all!"

That's awful - she sounds horrible.

FuckingHellAdele · 11/02/2024 18:48

A colleague many years ago ,when a group of us were talking about outfits

'the problem with having your figure is that no matter how expensive the clothes, they'll always look cheap'

Ouch.

The annoying thing is, although it was meant as a put down, she was spot on.

Iamnotawinp · 11/02/2024 18:52

Oh my favourite one is when my ex suggested to his old school chum about a meet up including the wives (3 couple).

The old school chum basically lives off his wife who earns big money in the city.

Old chum replied “oh no, she (meaning his wife)doesn’t socialise with housewives” yes I was a STAHM at the time.

stcrispinsday · 11/02/2024 18:53

Both of mine are from older men I worked with.

One looked at my engagement ring (had just got engaged) and said "it looks like something you'd get in a Christmas cracker".

The other looked at my neat bump when I was pregnant and said "you're huge, are you sure there's only one in there?"

Skyebe · 11/02/2024 18:53

After an interview, I was on my way out and I heard the manager say "we can't employ her she's blonde".
