Pancake day recipes!

WinterLobelia · 11/02/2024 11:02

I have just been reminded that it is Shrove Tuesday this week! last year was the first time I ever made pancakes and cannot wait to do it again.

We will be having;

Creamy seafood pancakes (me)
Cheese and mushroom pancakes (vegetarian DH)
ham and bechemel cheese pancakes (DCs)

Then pudding will be lemon and sugar and nutella.

I would love to hear what others will have.

I like the sound of what you're having!

The tradition when I was growing up was always soup and then pancakes for pudding, but I definitely want to try some savoury pancake recipes this year. Probably ham and cheese tbh, so not terribly exciting

oooh. I had forgotten about pancake soup. (i know you did not neccessarily mean your soup was a pancake soup @Dottina !). My GM used to make pancake soup (She was Viennese).

Growing up it was always a massive stack of thin pancakes with lemon and sugar but I love pancakes so will be using the excuse to have pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

My favourite recipes I have tried recently are carrot cake pancakes with maple cream cheese frosting and the BBC Good Food lemon drizzle pancakes.

I usually have some savoury thin pancakes with cheese but saw an idea for making a cheeseburger out of pancakes and I’m tempted to try it.

Mine will be gluten free ones made with cornflour and topped with lemon juice and sugar (must remember to by some squeezy lemon and some milk) and strawberry jam.

Violettaa · 12/02/2024 21:00

I would so love thin lemon and sugar ones.

But I don’t fancy frying and flipping them with baby DD trying to climb my legs and the 4yo wanting to help.

So scotch pancakes in the toaster it is.

Had early pancakes today:

Soft cheese and mushrooms

Chocolate, peanut butter and golden syrup ("the snickers one")

Lindor and raspberries

Tomorrow I'll have pancake quesadillas, then in the evening I'll have bolognese pancakes, then more sweet pancakes until the batter runs out. Which won't be for a while as I make it by the litre.

My son wants fluffy American style with bacon and maple syrup! So that's what we're having!

Talipesmum · 12/02/2024 21:41

For savoury we’ll be having leek, cashew and cheese. I’ll toast the cashews, put them to one side, then fry up the leeks, and when they’re all soft and nice and goldenish, I’ll stir in some spinach or greens or something, season, add lots of grated strong cheese (Comte or gruyere ideal but strong cheddar good too), stir till melting, add cashews, and use as pancake filling.

then lemon/sugar, maple syrup, bananas and chocolate (will make choc sauce with cream and dark choc) and pistachio spread. Not all at same time.

ColouringPencils · 12/02/2024 21:54

Main we will have a mix of toppings for veggie/non-veggies: garlic mushroom, spinach, sweetcorn, cheese, ham, and served with salad. Then for dessert, lemon and sugar or banana, peanut butter and chocolate. Looking forward to it! I always forget about making pancakes the other 364 days of the year.

I am loving these ideas! I'm making a list because I think I might need to do another pancake day very soon.

We had fluffy style for breakfast with blueberries in the batter and blueberry syrup on top (a handful of blueberries, tsp of sugar and a splash of water in the microwave for 1 min) using the BBCGF recipe.

Then will do flat pancakes for pudding this evening with optional toppings - Nutella, bananas, maple syrup or classic lemon and sugar.

PossumintheHouse · 13/02/2024 13:22

We’re having pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.

Followed by thin pancakes with sugar and fresh lemon.

AlisonDonut · 13/02/2024 13:30

We are having cheese and onion pancakes with potato salad and coleslaw [just got to go and pull a couple of carrots for that] for main and a sweet pancake for afters.

Yum, thank you! I just cooked a variation of this - onion, crushed nuts, cheddar, parmesan, soft cheese and rocket - delish!
