I lost the enveloppe

When we go on holiday I hide our valuables in case we are burgled. For a stupid unknown reason I decided to change hiding place at Christmas. Well you guessed it, I can’t find the enveloppe containing our passports and some cash.
I spent all day yesterday looking for it, the difficult part is that it could be anywhere, between the pages of a kids books in a storage box, inside folded bedsheets… at the moment I’m going through all my kids old school books / artworks.

The worse part is that I had DD(9) with me when I did the hiding thinking one of us would remember but ofc she has forgotten as well.

Wish me luck for another day of searching! Or if it happened to you please share the success stories!

We had a load of cash at one point and building work going on to hid the cash. I was convinced it was still in a sock at the back of a draw but it wasn't. Scared it was stolen. Found it 6months later tucked into the back of a picture on the wall. It was 15k!!!

Wow, glad you found it before you gave the box away!

Taking a pic on your phone is a really good idea if you're going to hide stuff again.

Stuff like that in my house is in a filing cabinet drawer labelled 'important stuff' 😂 Would a burglar really want passports? Genuinely never occurred to me that they might!

This seems like a lot of unnecessary stress. Are you at particularly high risk of being burgled? I just keep our passports in a desk drawer and don’t keep lots of cash in the house (no more than about £40). Important documents like birth certificates etc are in a folder in the desk. It sounds like you are much more likely to accidentally throw your stuff away than have it nicked!

Inside the box of a toddler blow up bed. During my search I took this box out of the cupboard it was in and put it aside for charity, stupidly didn’t think about unfolding the bed inside.

Stupid! What if you'd donated it with your envelope inside?

sofa cushion?

(inside one I mean)

Oh I realise the hiding place was stupid. And also that there is little point hiding passports.

The money is around 10k in foreign notes that a relative gave to me, I keep it in cash and spend when I visit this country because 1) I don’t want to pay the exchange commission and 2) I worry the bank will think I’m a drug dealer or something. I might re-think, doesn’t feel that smart now.

On the bright side I have already sold £20 worth of second hand toys on my local fb group
