DD is 17 and was out yesterday in a place that is a bit of a drive from our house (more than 20 miles) and she was supposed to stay with a friend of hers as agreed. I was surprised when I woke up at night when I heard her come in. She was drunk, and explained that she had decided to come home because “some guy” had given her a lift.
I am obviously grateful that someone actually drove her home but I am horrified that she decided to do this when I had always warned her about the dangers this posed. I did speak to her earlier and she did not have a fight with anyone, but when she heard that she could get a lift home she wanted to go and took the opportunity. She absolutely could have called me, and she also had enough money for a taxi because I always give her some “in case” money and she hands it back if she didn’t need it.
I tried to talk to her today but she was grumpy and avoidant so I let it go, but I am really worried that she isn’t taking safety seriously.
Any advice by people who have gone through the same? I really don’t want her getting into the car with strangers and I’m tempted to offer pick ups now.

You need to tell her how lucky she's been and give her a big hug and tell her to never ever do that again.
