Reading staying at someone's house

We have gone to see DH's cousin and family. We've just got here after a long drive and are going for dinner later. The wife is upstairs getting sorted, kids playing and DH and his cousin chatting and watching rugby and I can't get a word in edgeways. Would I be rude to get my book out lol. Hate doom scrolling on phone

I think as long as you put the book away when the wife comes back downstairs then I can't see a problem. I love reading but sometimes find it hard to concentrate if I'm in unfamiliar surroundings where there is a lot of noise.

If you were visiting me I'd be fine with that.

I resisted and went upstairs to get ready 🤣. Can you tell I'm an introverted extrovert really lol. Tbf the wife had a bit of a hangover and not making much conversation. They are lovely but obviously DH and his cousin have more to talk about and DH annoying me after a 4 hour long drive 🤣

I take my embroidery when we visit in-laws. If they are playing board games I will sit in the same room sewing. MIL is also into embroidery so always interested in what I am doing. She brings her book when staying with us

When my sil comes it's been fine. She once brought her laptop and did some work on a Sunday afternoon because she said she wouldn't be bothered when she got home but here it feels different. I'm just not interested in rugby and talking right now lol
