Ideas for quirky meals out - London

devildeepbluesea · 09/02/2024 12:49

DD and I are off to London for a few days during HT and I’d really appreciate some suggestions for unusual places to eat (lunchtime / late afternoon). She will eat anything and we’ve already eaten sushi, Italian, the Rainforest Cafe (it was shit), Thai.

Happy to consider anything, but quirky and unusual would be great. She’s also a massive Harry Potter fan, if anyone knows of anything HP-themed. TIA!

You’ll get more useful recommendations if you give the location you’re going to.

If Near East London there are very good Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road. As always pick the busiest one

have a good trip with your daughter 😀

I love the Coppa Club igloos by the river but pretty sure they would be booked up for next week…

devildeepbluesea · 09/02/2024 13:18

Thanks so far. - @Toooldtocareanymore i was hugely tempted by this but by god it’s pricey!
will have a look at the igloos, you never know.
Kingsland Rd also an option - we’re staying in Upminster and Victoria but happy to go anywhere really.

Ave Mario in Covent Garden is quite funky

Science museum afternoon tea at the Ampersand hotel, so special

How about the St Moritz Resturant in Wardour Street. It’s Swiss, does amazing fondue, has a very cow-bells-and-yodelling type of decor and definitely fits the description of quirky! Also it’s virtually next door to the House of MinaLima for all your Harry Potter needs.

Inamo is good fun - computer screen projected onto the table, which you use to order your food, change the table design, and play a variety of games like battleships.

Imamastermind · 09/02/2024 14:53

What about Inamo?
It's quite fun for kids because they have interactive tables where you order your food, check the bill, pay etc..
Good food also 👍

This is by far the quirkiest dining experience I've had.

catin8oots · 09/02/2024 15:48

Ooh what about that one where you eat in the dark? Went years ago - good fun

catin8oots · 09/02/2024 15:49

Oh PP beat me too it!

Places she may like:
Inamo (interactive tables)
EL&N (instagrammable girly Middle Eastern & dessert cafe with lots of fun mocktails and non boozy drinks)
Hoppers (Sri Lankan, don't think you can book)
Chinatown.. just stroll and pick somewhere
Marugame udon (fun Japanese with Japanese toilets, quirky)
Japes (deep dish pizza Chicago style)
Arcade food hall (various cuisines, near Tottenham Court Road)
St Moritz (Swiss, fondue)

So many more but hopefully this is a start ☺️

devildeepbluesea · 09/02/2024 17:39

Wow thanks everyone so much!! So many things to try! We’ve been to Inamo before and loved it. Could well be up for a return visit but there’s loads here to go through.

I am desperate to do Dans Le Noir - it’s a definite for next trip!

Brasserie Zedel, for "posh", but really good value if you choose from the set menu.

The Theatre Cafe Diner

On the off chance she's 18, The Clink in Brixton which is a restaurant in a prison. The food is great! https://theclinkcharity.org/restaurants/brixton

I’d do one of the barges at Paddington - fish barge or cheese barge.

How old is DD OP? If young, she might enjoy the excitement of teppanyaki at Benihana. They used to have reasonable groupon vouchers. Benihana International

If over 16/18, there is a quirky place called the Last Tuesday society in the East End, between Bethnal Green and Hackney. You can have an absinthe or other drinks in the bar, then explore the unusual museum down stairs.

Abeno near the British Museum. They cook Japanese pancakes on the table in front of you and it’s delicious. https://www.abeno.co.uk/
