What was a 2000s childhood like?

Was talking with my dh the other day about childhood throughout the decades and I was thinking that childhoods in the 70s, 80s, 90s etc are looked upon quite nostalgically and I've seen quite a lot of threads on here with people having similar childhood experiences of those times and remembering all the things they liked to do when they were kids. It got me thinking that I don't really know anything about childhood in the 2000s. I was born in 1979 so was in my 20s in the 2000s and didn't really spend any time with kids as I didn't have much family or any friends who had kids then. My dcs were born in 2015 and 2017 so it was a while after the 2000s had ended. Was just interested if either you were a kid in the 00's or your dc were kids then, what was it like to be a kid and what was popular (like foods, toys and what were popular things to do etc) and was it a good time to be growing up.

Emo make up too and skinny jeans in different colours with a zip again this was more mid-late 00s for us. Dream matte mouse, concealer on the lips about 1000 layers of eyeliner and mascara. Genuinely would spend the 20 minute walk to school just applying mascara and had about 4 different ones that we would layer

Blackberry's and BBMs instead of texting. I remember the iPhone coming out and everyone being like "why would I want an Ipod and a phone in one"

Also yes mean girls. Twilight and hannah Montana. CBBC. Play bogies in class.

I turned 13 in 2004. Looking back I think we got to enjoy the benefits of social media before it was all-encompassing. You had the convenience of texting/calling on a mobile phone but people weren’t glued to them 24-7, you could enjoy looking at and uploading photos to social media but had to physically power up a PC to do so 😂 I think it was a pretty nice balance for a short time.

Some of our parties ended up in the newspaper 😱

…they were fun though

Same! Police called and in the papers! Open invites on bebo, crazy to think about now, but so much fun at the time.

I was 11 when the millennium happened. Claires accessories was big. I was the MSN generation and logged on every day after school. Internet was fairly new. We started on dial up and couldn't use it if anyone was on the phone. Fashion was skirts over jeans, skinny scarves, ballet shoes. Butterfly clips in your hair. Limewire was the in thing and we waited 12 hours to download one song to burn to cd. It was either the song you wanted, a remix version or porn. You would have to just wait and see!

Tweenies
Beyblades
Bionicles Lego
Harry Potter films and books were popular
Started to be a bit more unusual not to have the Internet at home in about 2004, I think. We didn't have the Internet at home until about 2012, but homework set at school seemed to expect us to have it.
