Anyone else's DC obsessed with these?! My DS 9 is.

Are they worth the hype?!

No.
Not for my dc, she was desperate for one and she hates it. It's sat unused on the side, the most expensive water bottle ever!

TheChosenTwo · 07/02/2024 22:53

My Dad bought one for ds - he used it maybe twice. Leaked in his school bag and didn’t really like the smell.
We gave the rest of the pods to a friend whose dd used them.
Waste of money in the first place as he doesn’t have a problem drinking water, it’s pretty much all he drinks anyway.

goingdownfighting · 07/02/2024 22:58

They've been great for my youngest and my mum who has kidney disease and diabetes, who both hate water

PlumFish · 07/02/2024 23:00

It's vaping for kids (the ones who haven't started on real vapes yet).

nodogz · 07/02/2024 23:11

I was very skeptical about these bottles but at least a year on it's still the favourite and is used pretty much daily. They come with a handy bottle brush for the straw and it's been looked after so no chips or cracks or breaks. It is a fad but one that had endured.

I was reading to see if anyone else would say this, it feels to me as a way of introducing vaping. The packaging of the pods , the flavours.

idontlikealdi · 07/02/2024 23:24

No they are shit. Gave in and bought them for Dts birthday I think it was the summer before last when they were all over TikTok. They ended up in the recycling bin.

They are an odd shape, leak, the flavours are disgusting, the pods are expensive.

I saw an advert on tv this morning and wondered what was going on, they must be pushing again as that first phase on tik tok is dead in the water.

PickledMuffin · 09/02/2024 10:03

The association with vaping didn't even
occur to me. Has this been reported elsewhere then?

DS7 spent his Christmas money on one...he says the blackcurrent pod smell gives him a headache.

I think it was a good life lesson in 'sometimes things are expensive and hyped up' though. Better a £30 water bottle now then I dunno £100 uncomfortable trainers when he is older of something.

My dd had one when she was 10 and they are ok. It is just a fad really that works out quite expensive to keep up with. My dd only really liked the watermelon flavoured smell one and we spent lots of money on the others to try them. They do need to be changed way more often than stated or the pods go slimey underneath its ugh !! She used hers for 12 months and then it ended up in a cupboard. It a gimmick that is way over rated in my view. I dislike any plastic water bottles if the kids are using them for school. it makes me a bit queasy to think of that water sat in there all day!

ichundich · 09/02/2024 11:39

As much 'worth' as Prime bottles were ladt year 🙄.

mitogoshi · 09/02/2024 11:42

The Stanley cups have a problem, to do with the lining, head on radio 4 this week. I would definitely avoid

Exactly this !!! I gave in to pester power and when they Primes came out and no one could get them for love or money I found some to shut my dd up. I paid 75 quid for 6 bottles of various flavours and she didnt like them when she got them! Now they cant give the stuff away in Aldi!!! Never again stupid me! Since when did a bottle of fizzy pop become a main xmas prezzie?!! What was I thinking?!

DS has asked for one as his next chore reward and I was looking online to see if I could find a cheaper version of one. Saw a bunch on Amazon but not sure if the dupes are with it?
Also, I was worried about the vaping idea. They're basically sucking in flavoured air. DS does like drinking water at school and squash at home so I don't know whether to just stick with those?

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 09/02/2024 12:00

I just think that for say 7.00 a week on pods for a pack of three you might be better putting the cash to better use works out at roughly 30 quid a month and if you dont like the flavour when you have got it its going to cost even more.

PickledMuffin · 09/02/2024 12:17

Oh God, don't get my started on Prime!

Mermaidsarereal · 09/02/2024 12:43

Save your money! I got one for my DD last years birthday, I think she's used it twice!

YeahBrackie · 09/02/2024 12:52

Got my daughter one a year ago when she was in the last year of junior school and pretty much every pupil had one. Not been used since last summer. Bottle is awful for leaking and ruined loads of school books. The novelty of the flavoured pods soon wore off.

Partyonlikeyoureight · 09/02/2024 13:05

After reading the Ultra Processed People book and also listening to a great Huberman podcast on the effect of synthetic AND natural fragrances on the endocrine system specifically girls' puberty (the age of onset of puberty affects height also - they stop growing a year after menarche which I did NOT know) I am avoiding all of these things and taking as much fragrance as possible out of the home.

I'm not being mad about it, but dialling down candles, wash fragrances, heavily scented soaps etc. It's not just a synthetic thing - the podcast I mention goes into detail about how tea tree and lavender essential oils can negatively affect boys' endocrine systems.

So definitely not encouraging air up or anything like it.

KissyMissy · 09/02/2024 14:28

Rubbish!
My sons leaked so it's sat in the cupboard.

PlumFish · 09/02/2024 14:40

I haven't seen any reports on air ups and vaping but the sucking in of flavoured air seemed an obvious association to me.

mambojambodothetango · 09/02/2024 14:41

Bought both DS one after lots of requests. They leak if you don't put it back together really firmly and make sure the little notch is lined up. Never gone mouldy - every week I take it apart completely and wash in warm soapy water and use a straw washing brush inside to make sure nothing is hiding inside. They like them.
