Guess the eye issue?

Disclaimer I have been to the opticians Grin
They said they can't find anything wrong but it's obviously swollen and painful, photos of back of eye were fine and I'm waiting for a referral to an ophthalmologist

Some attractive pics, it's painful to blink, and my cheek is now joining the swelling tonight
I basically woke up with it yesterday and the swelling is just increasing very slowly
Anyone had similar?

It looks like periorbital/preseptal cellulitis to me, you need some systemic antibiotics (so tablets not drops)

These are the guidelines from our college.

In adults with preseptal cellulitis:
B3: begin treatment with systemic antibiotic (see above). Requires close monitoring, if no improvement within 24-48 hours or symptoms worsen then refer as emergency (same day)

Can you call specsavers back this morning and ask them to contact the GP for some? Explain the swelling is worse now that it was when you last saw them.
(You can also mention the college of optometrists guidelines.)

Could be a problem with your teeth. Infections in your upper jaw can cause eye problems

Yikes, this is scaring me a bit. You say you are “severely neutropenic”, I would want this looked at today by a doctor to get advice on what is going on & treatment if required. Yes, going to A&E will be a pain in the behind but if your GP won’t see you I wouldn’t leave it. I’ve seen what happens firsthand when a ‘bit of a symptom’ turns into a major infection in a neutropenic person. Don’t want to scare you OP but please get properly checked out. X

I am yes, I inject GCSF weekly to increase my count, I'm a little bit more relaxed about it probably because it's lifelong. Doctors never seem concerned about it with me being on GCSF
Still no temp or feeling unwell
Pain seems to have died down quite a bit now

@Paw2024 Ok, great 🙂. I’m not a medic, didn’t know if you were a chemo patient maybe! All the best to you Paw.

Paw2024 · 08/02/2024 20:44

Thought I would update the swelling finally appears to be going!

Paw2024 · 09/02/2024 20:42

Further update. Can you believe all that swelling was... a stye
Now the swelling has gone Confused the stye has appeared and disgustingly burst

I'm glad the swelling has gone!! And it was just a stye! It's good it has burst, you should get some relief now?

I'm surprised the optician didn't see this was the problem?

Paw2024 · 09/02/2024 21:57

It wasn't there, that's the weird thing. I even had my phone light looking for a stye before I bothered the optician and there was absolutely nothing
It's only appeared just now Confused

LIZS · 09/02/2024 22:19

I doubt the optician would have missed a stye and not felt some thing else was an issue worthy of referral.

Paw2024 · 09/02/2024 22:25

Awful close up but you can see it now

Guess the eye issue?

Ah yes I can see it.

Hope you're ok xx

toomuchcardboard · 09/02/2024 22:49

I don't think the problem was a stye. I have a friend who suffers from nasal polyps which cause infection and make his cheek swell and cause a lot of pain. It comes and goes, so if you have a recurrence it might be worth mentioning this as a cause.
