Did anyone see Rishi and his flip chart?!

I mean WTF?!
Who uses flip charts these days?! I was so stunned by the method of delivery I couldn’t rake in anything he was saying. (This is the conservative political broadcast on BBC1 at about 7 tonight)

He gets more and more like a third rate maths teacher everyday!

I followed it very well, but what I don’t understand is if inflation is down to 4% from 11% as he says, why the hell is everything getting more and more expensive?

This is a common misconception. When inflation is low, prices are still rising but they are rising more slowly. For falling prices you need negative inflation, which is rare (except for specific types of spending, like petrol, which does go up and down).

Gloriosaford · 08/02/2024 00:33

The poor house looks defeated & exhausted🏚

CruCru · 08/02/2024 00:34

I didn’t watch it. But I am not horrified by the concept of a flip chart - it sounds a lot more interesting than a really glossy PowerPoint.

Perhaps he isn’t a great speller and has bad handwriting - he almost certainly types everything these days.

easilydistracted1 · 08/02/2024 00:41

Wondered why he was suggesting the whole thing was LOL when it looks quite serious. Then I realised it was probably a c and means cost of living

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/02/2024 00:43

It made me LOL.😆

My first thought

LadyWithLapdog · 08/02/2024 06:43

Truly, we will look back at Johnson-Truss-Sunak and think “how the absolute fck did that happen”.

Whu · 08/02/2024 06:49

I don’t mind a flip chart.
Everything else I dislike - what patronising nonsense.

Mazuslongtoenail · 08/02/2024 06:53

I don’t vote Tory and I didn’t see it but I wouldn’t balk at using a flip chart and dislike the idea that it should be tech when it would do the exact same job (probably be more complicated actually).

Because inflation is still 4% and on some products including food is higher than that.

Even the prime minister didn’t seem to understand this given he kept saying the cost of living was coming down. Nope it’s just not rising as quickly!

BettysSeventhTentacle · 08/02/2024 07:03

He clearly wasn't confident about spelling "Brexit" so he just left it out altogether. Smart.

App13 · 08/02/2024 07:04

Peasnbeans · 07/02/2024 19:27

He's showing he's RELATABLE and not a billionaire who can afford lots of tech!
We can trust him!
Us, the poor thick people who need things literally drawing out on a FLIP CHART - he's one of US!

This!

DeadButDelicious · 08/02/2024 07:06

Oh I am going to have fun with this... Grin

Did anyone see Rishi and his flip chart?!

People will criticise whatever he does 🤷🏻‍♀️

And no, I'm not akshata. Would you believe I actually googled that, as I had no idea what his wife was called. Don't know and don't care.

Well, its hardly cutting edge AI is it?

He is treating us, as he sees the UK population, as thick.

& no i don't criticise all he does, dropping the EPC changes on rented properties was the only thing to do until we have more alternatives to the private sector.

augustusglupe · 08/02/2024 07:15

These drawings 👏🏻🤣

inappropriateraspberry · 08/02/2024 07:31

Maybe he'll bro g back Win, Lose or Draw! Is he the new host?

I don't criticise everything he or his party have done just ....

destroying the economy, deliberately trashing the NHS to sell off, giving dodgy contracts to their mates, ruining trust in politics by putting people in the house of lords because they gave them loads of money, allowing water companies to put actual shit into our rivers, failing to do anything about protecting women's spaces in the last 13 years and then using it as a political tool, allowing Brexit to happen just to appease the party, the inhumane Rwanda policy used to try and win some votes from bigots, failing to invest in green energy over the last decade which would have avoided the cost of living crisis (well that and Brexit), increasing the divide between rich anf poor, throwing millions into poverty, shutting the amazing Sure start centres that were reducing child mortality/increasing literacy rates/children's health etc

And he has shit handwriting and can't spell mortgage.

Because it is still going up at 4% yet most people's wages are not. Prices are not coming down so they went up by 11% and continue to go up.

He is trying to make it sound like they are going down because he is a weasel.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/02/2024 07:39

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/02/2024 21:47

The whole tone was one of not caring anymore. The Tories know they'll lose so they don't give a shit.🤷‍♀️

Spending anything more than a fiver on a party political broadcast for them would be a waste of money.

Although I’m sure they could find a friend with an offshore bank account to charge them a few hundred million for filming Rishi with a flip chart.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/02/2024 07:50

It's meant to be straightforward and relatable and to show he has a grip on the figures.🙄It's also a contrast to BoJo and all the "next slide please" press conferences.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 08/02/2024 07:54

I too couldn’t get past the saddest looking house I’d ever seen

leafybrew · 08/02/2024 08:09

Yeah I've just watched it, and yes, absolutely I want to go back to Square 1 with Labour, and try to forget the total shit show that has been the tories of the last 14 years.

And strangely - he made no mention of what the tory plan is for green energy and mitigating the effects of climate change.

2dogsandabudgie · 08/02/2024 08:34

leafybrew - Labour have just done a U-turn on their green energy policy of spending 28 billion a year. They never said where that money was going to come from though.

We'll have to invest in Green Tech one way or the other, all our competitors are, climate change isn't going away.

what i find strange is no one asks where Sunak is finding £26bn for tax cuts from?

Maybe Sunak can do another flip chart to explain?

(£20bn already given away and £6bn to follow in the Spring budget)
