Relocating near to Birmingham

Hello, I'm relocating from Cambridge to Birmingham. I'll be commuting to the office two days a week and working from home for three days. I'm interested in settling on the outskirts of Birmingham, preferably within 20 to 25 miles. My aim is to purchase a detached house with three bedrooms, with a budget of £300,000. After some searching, I've come across a few properties in Cannock that fit within my budget. Could you please advise if Cannock is a suitable area. Additionally, I'm in need of information regarding reputable high schools . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My friends live in Sutton Coldfield. No idea about schools but it seems a nice enough area.

Cheapest 3 bed detached in Sutton is 325k. Birmingham schools are grammar and non-grammar.

Staffordshire doesn't do 11+ but can apply from Staffordshire address to Birmingham grammar

Which part of Birmingham? Thinking about commute.

Just stay away from the Black Country, it’s crap here!

We are looking to move to Sutton Coldfield. Lovely area, good school. Depends on your budget though. My £240k house transplanted to Sutton Coldfield would suddenly be worth £600k.

ETA - just seen your budget, should learn to read posts properly.

Most, if not all, Birmingham grammar schools have catchment areas now. They are primarily for Birmingham residents with a few outside area if the places aren't filled.

300k is a stretch for a detached in most decent areas but I don't know Cannock so can't comment there.
