Expiry dates body products

So I know they have a little symbol on the back with 6/9/12/24 months on it but is this from purchase date or once opened? I’m having clear out and so many old products but unsure what to keep. A lot are unopened but some opened which I’m mostly binning sadly. Things like body and face moisturisers, nails creams, masks, nail polish, nail polish remover. Any ideas? TIA

Once opened, the little symbol is usually a jar with the lid open to indicate that it expires however many months from opening. Otherwise it would say, for example, Ex October 2024.
