Cold food only ideally as I'll be transporting this in my car and setting up at the venue.

Assuming the usual is a start but more suggestions welcome..

Sandwiches
Crisps
Cupcakes
Sausage rolls
Cheese and onion rolls
Salad
Cocktail sausages

What else would you include?
Around 50-60 guests of all ages.

Maybe things like coleslaw and potato salad?

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 05/02/2024 12:52

Great ideas thank you. I'm such a fussy person sometimes it's hard to picture what other people want to eat!

We're having all the above and also quiche, pasta salads, coleslaw and potato salad and also buying blocks of different cheese and cutting them into cubes with pickled onions also. We're also having chicken drumsticks and wings, bowls of sweets and big tubs of popcorn that we got out of home bargains and buying small snack bags to fill with sweets and popcorn. Also doing a fruit/veg/ cold meat platters. We have 50 people coming

heldinadream · 05/02/2024 12:55

Houmous! And breadsticks/crisps/crudites to dip.
Plus you're low on puddings - cheesecake.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 05/02/2024 12:56

Great ideas folks, you're all so helpful.

Stuffed mini peppers

I slice baguette into thin rounds, then top with brie, half a grape and a drizzle of honey. These always go down well.

I also buy those large round egg and potato tortillas you can get, cut them into squares and top with a pickled onion (skewered with a toothpick) and / or a folded over slice of parma ham.

And it's old school but I LOVE devilled eggs. Only they have to be secured well in the car as I discovered once when I had to do an emergency stop.....

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 05/02/2024 13:17

Happy to provide cardboard cutlery :)

I'd steer clear of anything requiring cutlery unless people actually have tables and chairs to sit and eat at, otherwise it's a PITA.

Ewoklady · 05/02/2024 13:20

Cupcakes (butterfly buns) would go down well

There are tables and chairs :) planning on using a local venue with a room to hire

Cheese straws made with vintage cheddar and a bit of mustard.

Sgtmajormummy · 05/02/2024 14:09

I’ll be catering DD’s 18th evening bash in March and to overcome the lack of hot food we’ll get a pizza delivery (20 guests so maybe 6 pizzas) and I’ll take my air fryer to have a rolling supply of hot chips.
Buffet will be bacon and cheese quiche, spinach and ricotta quiche, mini sausage rolls, marmite pinwheels with sesame seeds, twisted cheese straw “sun” shapes, hummus in individual pots, guacamole ditto. Ketchup and mayonnaise pumps for the chips. Crisps, nachos and popcorn.
Sweets will be fruit skewers, tray bake banana bread and a huge freshly baked bread-and-Nutella “18” shape instead of a cake.

Onion bhaji
pakoras
samosas
spring rolls
cheese biscuits and cheese board
vol au vents
jacket potatoes
mini quiches
pork pies
cocktail sausages
pizzas

Most of these would need cooking beforehand I assume? For 50-60 people I'm not sure it's feasible for me to cook it all at home and transport it. I thought about jacket potatoes but it seems a tricky one with one oven and lots of guests.

Greek salad
Pasta salad
Hummus and veg sticks
Pineapple and cheese on cocktail sticks

CrispsnDips · 05/02/2024 14:23

All of those items (onion bhaji, pakoras, etc) can be just taken out of packets and eaten cold, no need to cook

Oh really? I've only ever seen the ones in the party food frozen section and they obviously need to be good. I'll keep an eye out in the supermarket for fresh.

Cheese board , crackers and grapes
Ham, salami, etc
Smoked salmon
Pork pie
Sausage rolls
Potato salad or cold baby new potatoes
Coleslaw
Green salad
Hummous
Olives
Celery, carrot, pepper sticks
Crisps (lots!)
French bread cut into slices
Butter, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressing, pickles

A few big cakes, whatever flavours you like.
Fresh fruit

Include some gluten free/dairy free/vegan stuff. Maybe some 'free from' cupcakes or something.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 05/02/2024 14:40

This was my finger buffet recently that went down well: no cutlery needed. I would not bother with salad or anything that requires serving from bowls.

cherry tomatoes on sticks with cubes of feta cheese
cocktail sausages on sticks with slices of green apple
vegetarian chorizo sausages on sticks with slices of red apple
Cubed cheddar on sticks with silver skin onions
small pieces of Brie on sticks with grapes
blinis with cream cheese and smoked salmon.
sausage rolls (try to cook these last so still a bit warm)
cheese and onion rolls (as above; serve warm).
guacamole, hummus, salsa, cheese and chive dip in small bowls with bread sticks, carrot sticks, florets of raw cauliflower, cucumber sticks, slices of pepper to dip.
finger sandwhiches
filled mini rolls
egg and bacon pie, cut into small slices.
(I also did and egg and tomato one)
(personally I detest cold pizza and did not serve it but I know some children like it)

fruit kebabs (kiwi, mango, melon, pineapple and strawberry)
mini pavlovas (with raspberries)
chocolate brownie already cut into squares

it was nice as colourful and definitely not all beige, yet easy to prepare and transport. I’d assemble the pavlovas once you get there. The rest can be put on serving platters at home and covered over tightly with tin foil.

I just catered my sons 16th party. I precooked sausage rolls, cheese & onion rolls, samosas, onion bhajis, and served 6 different types of crisps with dips, a bowl of small packets of haribo/love hearts/individual chocolate hearts and some bowls of peanuts. It was just to snack on basically until the pizzas we ordered arrived a bit later and were descended upon like a plague of locusts. I'm aware there's no vegetables but it was a treat for a party.
