Anyone up? What does a blood clot feel like?

I have a bruised feeling on my knee/calf and slightly in my thigh. I can’t tell whether it’s red or not and i don’t think it’s swollen. No actual
visible bruise but it’s really bruise-like sore to touch.

but I’m up at 1am absolutely shaking with fear that I might have a blood clot. What do they actually feel like?

I feel sick with worry🙁

Have you got health anxiety?

TheShellBeach · 05/02/2024 01:22

The bruised feeling is in three places? Knee, calf and thigh?

A blood clot would be in one place, OP.

Nervousbloodywreck · 05/02/2024 01:22

@TheShellBeach Yes, pretty severe and I’m in therapy for it but I feel like as soon as it’s mentioned I’m not taken as seriously ☹️

The pain starts to the side of my knee area and extends into the side of my calf/shin. I can’t tell if the thigh pain extends from the knee but I can’t don’t want prod and poke too much

I have anxiety too OP and have been up many nights thinking I have a blood clot in my calf when I had cramp.

It's very unlikely and there would usually be very bad pain and redness/swelling.

It's your head that's trying to scare you. Concentrate on what you've learned in therapy and try to sleep 💐

Have you already sought medical advice for this, OP?

Nervousbloodywreck · 05/02/2024 01:33

No I haven’t yet. I just looked on NHS and it’s not very specific about what kind of pain I should
be feeling if it was a clot. And albeit I’m ridden with health anxiety I’m very conscious of wasting doctors time so I try to only go and get seen once Ive come through the panic and am still having symptoms.

this pain has been going for a couple of days but for some reason tonight it’s just made me think the worst.

Sounds like a trapped nerve or a twist op.

Why on earth would you jump to blood clot? Do you have risk factors for it? Recently spent 16 hours sitting on a plane?

Sounds more like ocd/anxiety op.

Take a couple of paracetamol and put on a funny movie.

Maybe do some light, stretching based exercises over the next few days to help shake out the strain. A leg massage couldn't harm either.

Health anxiety must be so difficult OP, I really feel for you.

However, symptoms are not always down to health anxiety. As blood clots are potentially serious but totally treatable I think it would be worth your going through the 111 process either online or by phone.

This will either set your mind at rest, or if there’s even a chance that you might have one, you’ll be told what to do. No one will mind if you then turn out not to have a clot.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had 2. There was no warmth, swelling, no redness either time, only pain. The first time, the pain was in several places in my leg at the same time or in one place then another. It wasn’t very severe although it got worse gradually. The second time the pain was more localised.

I think blood clots present in quite varied ways, that’s presumably why the NHS guidance is a bit vague as to how they feel.

No one can diagnose whether or not you have a clot on an internet forum.

Take care x
