Another 'help me find this book' one

I'm enjoying a bit of a chick lit renaissance and keep remembering a chick lit book I loved in the 90s (in my teens). I'm pretty sure it will have come free with a magazine, probably More or Bliss or something like that. I think the cover was pink and was about a 'normal' girl who fell in love with an actor.

The main bit I remember about it is the opening line - the author breaks down the word orgasm into 'oh', 'gasp' and 'mmmm'. I'd love to dig up an old copy and read it for nostalgia sake but Google isn't coming up with much from my paltry rememberings! If anyone could name the book I'd be grateful forever!

Plot sounds exactly like the TV show Starstruck with Rose Matafeo. Some suggestions here www.pastemagazine.com/books/book-recs/7-romance-novels-to-read-if-you-swooned-over-stars

Or Permanent Record by Mary Choi
Or This is what happy looks like by Jennifer E Smith

I did enjoy starstruck! You know what they say...there are no new ideas.

The book I'm thinking of is older than any of this - must have been published about 1995 I reckon. It wasn't a great quality book but clearly arrived at a very susceptible time of my life.

Was it the making out series? Zoey fools around?

No - it was definitely British (I think they go to the Norfolk coast at one point) and it was an adult book, not YA (which it looks like the Making Out books were). It had a definite Richard Curtis type vibe. Thanks for suggesting though!

Oh I don't know that one! But I did love loads free books I got with magazines in the 90s. I loved My Legendary Girlfriend by Mike Gayle which I think I got free with a magazine too. Just wish I could remember the name of this other one!

Oh this got me thinking. Sorry to ask my own but I was thinking the other day about a 90s book which was written by two authors, one was male and the other one was female, it was kind of chick lit meets lad lit, written from both perspectives. It does feel like so much low key 90s culture has just disappeared which is weird when everything now is online forever! Would love to know what my book was called though.

TweeBee · 04/02/2024 22:50

Salacious, I reckon your book was by Emlyn Rees and Josie Lloyd, I loved them.
Oh for the days you could get a book free with a trashy magazine!
Hope you find your book OP!

PosyPrettyToes · 04/02/2024 22:54

@SalaciousCrumble those are definitely Josie Lloyd and Emlyn Rees

helpnohelpno · 04/02/2024 23:37

Yes I loved those books they wrote Come together and Come again.

helpnohelpno · 04/02/2024 23:38

Op there's a Paige Toon book with that sort of plot. Not sure when it was written though

JustAGirlScotland · 04/02/2024 23:47

"Air Kisses" by Zoë Barnes?

KnittingKnewbie · 04/02/2024 23:49

Might it have been a Jill Mansell book?

TheRealMaudOHara · 05/02/2024 10:08

@helpnohelpno @JustAGirlScotland not Paige Toon or Zoe Barnes but thanks for trying! @KnittingKnewbie not Jill Mansell but she's playing an important role in my chick lit revival - some great nostalgia! Maybe it didn't exist and I dreamed it???
