Which kindle?

I'm thinking of treating myself to a new kindle e-reader. I'm having trouble deciding which one to buy. I'd like it to be backlit so I can read while DH is in bed sleeping. Other than that I'm not too fussed. I can't see much difference between them. Please help!

I've got the Oasis and Signature Paperwhite. Love both of them but the Oasis battery life isn't quite as good as the Signature.
Both have the backlight and can change the background from bright to warm.
The Oasis has the buttons to turn the pages and is slightly bigger but the Signature fits nice in my bag when I go out.

The signature sounds like a good choice for me then. Which gen is that do you know? I'm not sure if they change much with each gen? I'd like to be able to pop it in my handbag. I've got a dodgy shoulder so not ideal to be carrying heavy books anymore!

Kobo, so you can borrow ebooks from the library.

Mine is the 11th gen

I’ve got the basic kindle. It’s backlit and does everything I need it to. It’s got me back into reading and I love it.

I got a kids kindle because free cover, no ads and waterproof! Can set it up as an 'adult' kindle BTW.

Pisses me off not being able to borrow from the library though so the kobo mentioned by a PP seems like a good idea.

My kindle is 6 years old, it's back lit and no adds. My in laws don't have a back lit one, after seeing theirs I went for a back lit one as it's so much better.

I spent a while last year reading about the various options and decided that, for me, the Paperwhite was not worth the extra cost. Obviously everyone has their own perfectly valid ideas on what’s worth paying extra for. My kindle got me back into reading. The backlight is great. Make sure you sign up for kindle daily deal emails on Amazon!

@saturnspinkhoop see I think I do want the paper white. Shame I can't see them all in person. I'm sick of getting sore thumbs from holding the book

If you want it, you get it! I know what you mean about wanting to see them to make a decision. There are some great reviews online, including YouTube, which compare different models. Just because I didn’t go for the paperwhite, doesn’t mean that’s what everyone should do. Whatever you get, I think you’ll be pleased. My kindle is now one of my favourite things. Don’t forget to choose a case- there are some lovely cases available.
