That always flusters me for some reason. Do I say Mrs Surname? Firstname Surname? Firstname?

OP posts:
HalebiHabibti · 03/02/2024 13:36

First name.

Grilledsquid · 03/02/2024 13:37

I use first name surname

pasteloblong · 03/02/2024 13:37

I just use surname.

RJnomore1 · 03/02/2024 13:37

I always just say surname.

notacooldad · 03/02/2024 13:38

Usually I just say my surname.

Cheepcheepcheep · 03/02/2024 13:38

I go first name surname, as I know some places record first names and others surnames.

My parents are old school and only ever offer their surname, which sometimes confuses younger people who are used to working on a first names only basis.

Zola1 · 03/02/2024 13:38

I usually give my first name as my surname is a nightmare and no one ever gets it right anyway

OrlandointheWilderness · 03/02/2024 13:39

Surname

CopperLion · 03/02/2024 13:39

Surname. Anyone could have my first name.

Likeagoodday · 03/02/2024 13:39

I give part of my surname as it’s long and hard to spell. Then when I arrives it’s a table booked for x number in the name of “Day”

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/02/2024 13:39

First name surname

TheChosenTwo · 03/02/2024 13:39

I tend to give my first name as my surname is very common - more likely there will be multiples of those booked in than my first name.

ThereIbledit · 03/02/2024 13:39

As somebody who has worked on the other end: It REALLY doesn't matter. You could give us a code word for all we care. We just want a way to be able to identify you and match you to the table you booked when you arrived.

TossieFleacake · 03/02/2024 13:39

First name then surname.
My surname is also a male first name so I rarely just use that in case they think it's my first name.

Excitingnewusername · 03/02/2024 13:41

Usually just surname, as it's more distinctove than first name. Does occasionally lead to issues when meeting couple friends who don't have a shared surname, as DH and I don't either, so you're sometimes playing guess which name was used from a long choice of first names and surnames 😊

Shf · 03/02/2024 13:41

First name. But they often mishear mine so I give them a slightly different version. Which gets written down wrong as well…

I now resort to using a name which can’t be misheard!

Ask them to Say please if their just barking NAME at you 😂

user1492757084 · 03/02/2024 13:46

I feel self conscious sometimes too.
Having to say my actual name so loudly that others can hear is sometimes unreasonable
Sometimes I make up code names.

Say your second name, or your daughter's first name, a ficticious name or something left of field...

Buttercup
River
Butterfly
The cook
Pop
Raven
Swan
Tinkerbelle

AnImaginaryCat · 03/02/2024 13:50

It's nothing to get flustered about. It's not a test just a way to identify the booking when you get there.

I generally just give my name (first and last). Or if its for work then id give the team name.

You could say "AintNobodyHereButUsChickens" if you wanted. Though you might need to repeat it. 😀

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2024 13:51

I say my surname as my first name is a pretty difficult Irish name which takes far too long to explain or repeat or have to say “yes two Os” etc etc. Grin

Ouchmyarse · 03/02/2024 13:52

I say my surname.

And then immediately feel like a pretentious twat because I only ever book at Toby Carvery.

AnnaMagnani · 03/02/2024 13:55

Nothing as I think I've only booked via apps or websites for over 5 years.

Phoning a restaurant? No way.

Doingmybest12 · 03/02/2024 13:58

I used to always say sir name but now say first name as that seems to be more of a thing now.

Roastiesarethebestbit · 03/02/2024 13:59

Bond. James Bond.

BertieBotts · 03/02/2024 13:59

It doesn't matter. It's just a booking reference that you'll remember and if other people come separately, they will know too.

If you have a common first name, use surname. If you have a hard to pronounce surname, use first name.
