That always flusters me for some reason. Do I say Mrs Surname? Firstname Surname? Firstname?

I use my mother's maiden name, which my parents used when they were married, too. It's an uncommon surname but ordinary word (like banana or purple). My dad's surname is easy to mispronounce.

Lilacshade · 03/02/2024 14:02

I usually give the family name which is different to mine, it saves confusion on arrival. However since I discovered that the DC always give a first name I'll be doing that in future.

Tempnamechng · 03/02/2024 14:02

Just surname, as we are the Chng party. I'm not a dick about introducing myself by my surname and insisting on calling my server by their first name though.

puncheur · 03/02/2024 14:04

Surname. Not my real one which everyone gets wrong but a made up one which is both easy to spell and no one else will have.

boopboopbidoop · 03/02/2024 14:05

CopperLion · 03/02/2024 13:39

Surname. Anyone could have my first name.

Unless it's an unusual surname, anyone could have your surname too

EffortlessDistraction · 03/02/2024 14:14

Surname, my firstname is much more common. DH tends to just use his firstname, which is even more common, so you get there and they say John, which one. So long as they can work out which is your reservation it really doesn't matter.

SoupDragon · 03/02/2024 14:20

I go with surname but it could feasibly pass as a first name anyway.

ColleenDonaghy · 03/02/2024 14:25

I just give my surname - but these days mostly book online so don't give anything Grin

Floralnomad · 03/02/2024 14:26

Surname only

DinnaeFashYersel · 03/02/2024 14:29

Surname

Rumpelslutskin · 03/02/2024 14:30

Surname

Mementobento · 03/02/2024 15:52

Surname unless it’s a common one. Otherwise you may find someone on your table. Happens more than you think !

VladsPants · 03/02/2024 16:13

“My name? JR Hartley”.

ALongHardWinter · 03/02/2024 16:15

I say my full name.

Topseyt123 · 03/02/2024 16:23

I wouldn't get flustered over it. It's just to connect you to the right table for your booking.

We used our surname.

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 03/02/2024 16:24

Whichever name you want to use. I sometimes use my first name, and other times my surname.

MySonCyrilBaconSniffer · 03/02/2024 16:29

Government name. IP Address. Current dilation in cm.

BeaRF75 · 03/02/2024 16:38

I just give my surname. I suppose if I had a more everyday surname, like Jones or Smith, I might say Firstname Surname.
Just first name alone would be a bit odd and far too relaxed (also more likely to lead to mix up)

And most restaurants allow you to book online anyway, so that's always preferable as you get written confirmation of the reservation.

shreknjumps · 03/02/2024 16:42

Bond, James Bond

fuckssaaaaake · 03/02/2024 16:43

I say first name. They don't care which you use 🤣

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 03/02/2024 16:43

Surname only.

boredybored · 03/02/2024 16:49

Surname !
I work in retail and it's amazing how many people you ask and they say 'becky or Claire or whatever 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

DoubleHelix79 · 03/02/2024 17:01

If I go out with my husband then usually his surname - mine is not from the UK and using it for a reservation usually results in multiple requests to spell it out, followed by staff at the restaurant trying and failing to pronounce it.

RomeoandJomeo · 03/02/2024 17:14

I generally give just my first name, but frequently (more often than not, I reckon) get told they want my surname. Never understood it - as many pp have pointed out, surely its just a way of identifying me.

cardibach · 03/02/2024 17:18

AnnaMagnani · 03/02/2024 13:55

Nothing as I think I've only booked via apps or websites for over 5 years.

Phoning a restaurant? No way.

I hate using phones too, but I’m not going to let it stop me going somewhere I want to go.
What’s with the total refusal to use phones (or answer doors) on here?
