That always flusters me for some reason. Do I say Mrs Surname? Firstname Surname? Firstname?

I generally give just my first name, but frequently (more often than not, I reckon) get told they want my surname. Never understood it - as many pp have pointed out, surely its just a way of identifying me.

They probably get told to ask for surnames after too many occasions of duplicate bookings for Claire or John or whatever.

I hate using phones too, but I’m not going to let it stop me going somewhere I want to go.
What’s with the total refusal to use phones (or answer doors) on here?

It doesn't stop me going anywhere!

The whole process is easier via restaurant booking apps.

SnowsFalling · 03/02/2024 17:38

DH's first name. Which is also a surname.
Noone can get our surname!

DillDanding · 03/02/2024 17:39

I always give my surname as no-one can spell my Christian name.

EffortlessDistraction · 03/02/2024 17:50

Apps have the advantage of being able to book outside opening hours, but I prefer phoning as you get an immediate confirmation and I don't have any aversion to talking on the phone, it is still often the quickest and easiest way to get things done.

Unless there isn’t one…not all small venues have them.

mathanxiety · 03/02/2024 17:57

Surname - first name causes consternation.

bananaboats · 03/02/2024 18:00

Surname, it would occur to me to just give my first name tbh!

Metallicant · 03/02/2024 18:03

Full name

never occurred to me not to

SameToo · 03/02/2024 18:12

Normally book with my husbands name because it’s very easy to spell. Otherwise I have to spell out my name.

mondaytosunday · 03/02/2024 18:14

Surname.

Redglitter · 03/02/2024 18:16

Surname. Wouldn't occur to me to use my first name.

PrawnDumplings · 03/02/2024 18:17

First

Tanktanktank · 03/02/2024 18:31

I use my maiden name because it’s easy to spell and pronounce unlike my married name which you’d think was easy but has a soft G and everyone pronounces it with a hard G which really annoys me.

IDidntWearASmileToday · 03/02/2024 18:34

I give both as I have a very common last name and an uncommon first name, my last name is also a fairly popular first name.

nokidshere · 03/02/2024 18:36

I book with my first name.

wendywoopywoo222 · 03/02/2024 18:40

I just use my my first name.

purplecorkheart · 03/02/2024 18:44

First name and surname. To be honest I have never thought about it.

OldTinHat · 03/02/2024 18:47

I always just give my surname.

merryhouse · 03/02/2024 18:47

I use H's surname Grin

Mine is unusual (in its current form entirely English, but unusual) and I don't like to think I might fluster people who are just trying to do a decent job for me.

His is a really common one - so common it has two ways (I think in social parity) of spelling it. We've never had any issue with confused bookings. Surely if there were two you'd be able to tell which was which by the time and size? - and if they were identical it wouldn't matter.

Nicebloomers · 03/02/2024 18:50

First name

caringcarer · 03/02/2024 18:52

I say first name second name. I generally eat at the same favourite restaurant and they know who I am.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 03/02/2024 19:02

Surname. Usually booking either as a family or for me and DH, so it’s a collective signifier - giving just my first name would feel like it was just going to be me (which is fine, but usually not the case!). It’s also not very identifying.

hexsnidgett · 03/02/2024 19:08

Fake surname, no one can spell mine or my maiden nameHmm

CherryPiePiePie · 03/02/2024 19:09

First name and surname, like other pp my surname is a males first name and wouldn’t want anyone thinking it was my name 😂
