dental hygenist

I have been with my dentist for a few years and he never recommended me see thee hygenist. I think that is wrong. I guess as an adult he felt it is my responsibility to go to the hygenist. I have not been because at my previous dentist I went to the hygenist and had a bad experience and had very severe sensitive teeth afterwards and it put me off. The other thing was the hygenist was quite rough. When I changed dentists my current dentist never said anything about my gums so I assumed he did not think there was an issue. It was only because I queried something that he mentioned my gums were not as good as they should be.

I have now booked an appointment with the hygenist but am not looking forward to it because of my previous experience and i am now going off my dentit for not mentioning my gums to me. Every other dentist i have ever had, has mentioned gums but this one has never done so.

Would it be out of the realms for you to ask at an appointment
Do you recommend I see the hygienist?

tuvamoodyson · 03/02/2024 06:33

Did you ask?

Goawaytina · 03/02/2024 06:35

So you didn't want to go to the hygienist due to a bad experience..but you're upset your dentist didn't recommend you see the hygienist? Have you nothing better to worry about?!

for the last 40 yrs, my dentists (three) all book a hygienist visit PRIOR to their exam. I’ve never had a dental check without having first having a cleaning, scaling and polish.
i prefer scaling with the water tool vs the metal ones, and always get the fluoride tx as it reduces temperature sensitivity.
love love love how up to date and modern dentistry has become.

I am very sensitive to pain so I ask the hygienist to do manually which she does.

Perhaps the dentist assumes you would arrange the hygienist without reminding you.

Yes perhaps he thought i would go. However every dentist i have been to in the past has always mentioned going to see the hygenist and every dentist at the end of the visit finishes off with a clean of the teeth and a laaittle polish with minty powder and goes round each tooth with an electric device and polished the teeth with the powder. My current dentist has never done this.
