Ruined bank note?

A £20 note has come apart! Not ripped or torn, it simply came apart (see photo). Will my bank replace it or is it a lost cause?

Yes, if you have more than 50% of it they should replace it.

SantaBarbaraMonica · 02/02/2024 09:47

Bring to bank. That is VERY odd. May well be counterfeit.

TheFlis · 02/02/2024 09:47

Are you sure it’s not fake? Never known a note do that. But as previous poster says, if it is real a bank should swap it.

marshmallowfinder · 02/02/2024 09:48

I had one like this. The plastic had gone very brittle. The bank will sort it for you.

Your bank will probably take it, if not then send it to the Bank of England with the firm via the following link

The only remaining reason for refusal would be due to forgery as @TheFlis has pointed out

Damaged and contaminated banknotes

If you have an accidentally torn, damaged or mutilated genuine Bank of England note, we may be able to exchange it for you.

Took it in and the lady didn't question it at all, just offered a replacement or to have the money in my account. Brilliant customer service from Santander.

As long as youve got the whole serial number intact ( both sides intact) you will be guaranteed a replacement by Bank. No serial numbers = no replacement.

seasaltbarbie · 04/02/2024 00:41

The number at the bottom has to be visible and not missing

shreknjumps · 04/02/2024 00:43

"Brilliant customer service from Santander."

They have to replace it regardless of which bank it is
