Just for fun, if you collect anything as a hobby, what do you collect?

Vintage cook books. I love them. Pre 1950 and the older the better. I don't mind facsimiles as long a they haven't been updated but I prefer the real thing.

No. I'm just not that bothered by stuff these days.

Not now - but I’m 72 - I’m chucking it all out

I collect hobbies if that counts. You name it I've fixated on it for some length of time. It might be 2 weeks or it might be 2 years, one day I love it and the next day I'm like nope, done with that. I have a very eclectic range of skills now though.

dust

I used to but don't have space now. Series of children's books I used to love, thimbles, Wade animals, fob/pocket watches and strangely enough, snails. I had some beautiful snails. They lived in a massive tank in the back garden.

I have bought elephants from Thailand, India etc. but will probably not do any more long haul holidays. They live in the conservatory and have to face the door!

Royal Copenhagen pottery
fossils
amber
pretty feathers

Catsmere · 01/02/2024 10:01

Cat hair. 😸

I really enjoy collecting Ephemera. Easy and cheap to collect and doesn't take up too much room.
I have quite a lot of postcards but don't stick to one topic or theme. I love it if they have been posted and there's a nice long message on the back for me to read!
I like old cinema magazines from the 30's through to the 50's but haven't added any new ones to my collection for years as the prices have increased and its not as much fun if things are too expensive.
Posters - bit expensive to collect as such but have a few that I have had framed.
My newest collection is old photographs. Again no theme as such but it's the everyday snapshots of the 30's through to the 60's that's I enjoy the most rather than portraits. I really like seeing what people are wearing.

Children's books by specific authors. My main two are Malcolm Saville and Monica Edwards, but also go for a lot of that era including Chalet School, Antonia Forest, Noel Streatfeild, Violet Needham etc.
